1980 4-5 speed swap

1980 4-5 speed swap
Have a 5 speed put of an 81 and I have the 20r motor and I just can't get the bolts started nor the tranny to snug up to the motor .is the input shaft longer on the 81 compared to the 80 four speed ? Any suggestions
