1979 Toyota Tool Set (Contents)

I have a 1979 RN37-20R-358 that family purchased new and was used around the farm/acreage for several years as a light duty vehicle.

It has always been taken care of and is still in really good condition. This past weekend I was checking out the spare underneath and wanting to drop it out to compare to a set a tires I want to go on it.
I like the old "square" snow/mud tire design... However, I believe I may be missing the tool used to crank/lower the spare down. All I have is a TOYOTA pouch with a few standard tools. Could someone help clarify what came in the too set?

Truck has never been off the acreage but a few times in the past 3.5 decades. I'm hoping I can find it and rest easy I have all I'll need.

Truck still has that TOYOTA smell in the interior. It's a fun toy.

Welcome to YotaTech!!

My 1987 Truck has the little TOYOTA tool pouch and has a long rod that clips into two metal holders behind the seat. I think this is what you are missing. I would imagine that your 1979 would be similar.

In the tool pouch, I have a wheel lug wrench, an extension bar for the spare tire rod, and the crank handle that fits over the rod so you can crank it down. All are factory originals.

I might be able to get a few pictures up later.

There are probably other things you can try if you do not have that rod but I have never thought about it. Hopefully someone can tell you what is the best way to get the spare tire down without the rod.

Google image "Toyota tools" You should be able to figure out what tools will work on your vehicle. If it's a matter of trying to drop a spare you can usually use a very long flat head screw driver. Harbor Freight carries a cheap one. I have no idea what vehicle you are talking about. Is it a pickup?

Thanks old87yota! I got lucky and found it!

Yes, as dropzone states, it is a '79 4x4 pickup.

eBay the best place for NOS parts?

Well the best place for Toyota parts are the various dealer run websites. They are usually cheaper than your local dealer.

However, for a 1979 Truck, some parts (especially interior and exterior parts) will need to be bought from other sources because the dealer has discontinued parts. You can use places like eBay, Craigslist, aftermarket part suppliers (which I stay away from for most parts unless it is the only option due to questionable quality), or use the classified section here on YotaTech to see if anybody has what you are looking for. Usually eBay has inflated prices for NOS parts but if you need the part and cannot find it anywhere else, eBay can be good.

Glad you found the rod!

Awesome. Need new TOYOTA side markers and lenses. Looking for NOS set of mudflaps as well. All I can find are the smaller 2WD variations.
