1988 4Runner - SR5 V6

I am copying the text from my Craigslist ad, so forgive any content that may by dumbed down so-to-speak for a non-Toyota reader. I am not a regular here and will try to check back often. Hitting me up via email might be best. I'm also open to constructive criticism on my ad and willing to listen to offers.

I am reluctantly selling my 1988 4Runner, primarily because I have too many projects and not enough money (or time).

This 4Runner is probably 99% mechanically sound. I did the headgaskets and had the heads redone a few years ago, but only a very few miles ago. It doesn't get driven much. I changed the timing belt and the water pump and all the parts associated with the timing belt at that time. It has a young exhaust system on it (a few years ago but not many miles under its belt). This included everything (I'm pretty sure it included a new catalytic converter too, but my memory is foggy). I would get in this truck and drive it pretty much anywhere (but I have AAA, so that helps my confidence ;-) ).

It has a class 3 tow hitch and I've used the heck out of it. In fact, that's a good majority of what I've used the truck for recently.

It's not the prettiest looking truck, but it's just now starting to show the typical Toyota truck rust. I'm confident that this is easily fixed. When we bought it in 2008 or 2009, there were zero signs of rust, and I could tell this had been one of the previous owners projects. My main focus was keeping it running right with fixing the body as a "maybe one day" project.

The only bodywork I did attempt was to reseal the windshield. The top half had actually become seperated from the body and would leak horrible and would flap slightly while driving. I carefully removed the windshield and cleaned and removed any rust from the channel, and primered and painted the entire top of the cab with body-matched spray paint. Not the best job, but pretty good for a driveway job. Unfortunately, I botched the installation and got window adhesive everywhere :-(. It was in my hands for weeks! And while the windshield is now 100% attached, it still has a small leak in heavy rain :-(

So that's it in a nutshell. I have not cleaned it out yet, which is why there is only one picture of the interior. I'll add more once I get it cleaned out.

Oh yeah. It's an automatic (that works great!), it has 208k miles, but the speedometer stopped working briefly about the time I stopped driving it regularly (not even 1000 miles were missed). I installed a new speedometer cable from Toyota. About the only thing that doesn't work is the cruise control. The AC worked up until this summer, but I'm certain it just needs a recharge. I may try to do that this weekend.

I'd like to get $3800 for the truck. I know they have a cult following and are quickly climbing the collector car lists (one of the many reasons I DON'T want to sell it :-( ). That being said, I'm open to offers. I need to sell it but I'm not going to give it away.

Help me find a good home for this beast.

Thanks!
Patrick
