1987 4Runner **Needs a Motor** Denver, CO

I picked up an 87 4runner from Flagstaff, AZ.. made it all the way to Denver and the next day I ended up blowing my headgasket 2 hours out of the city. Had it towed back and it's at a shop now.. get a call today saying it will need a new block as well and it'll cost me 4500 to fix... around what I paid for the 4runner itself. I don't know what to do at this point and it would really suck to have to just give it away. The truck is in pretty good shape with new tires, 4" lift and it had some head work done.. Is there anyone local that could help or have a 22re I could potentially buy? Or anyone with resources able to help me get this rig running again so I can bring it back to Minnesota? Any help, advice, leads, would be appreciated.. I am just really bummed out with how all of this turned out.. Make an offer at this point..
**I'll have more details for you when I get home tonight**

What is your price...

If you part it out, I will take the ARB front bumper and winch...

Let me know. I can drive down and get it.

parting out seems very difficult at this point although it would be the easiet to recoup any kind of money that i have into it.. i guess i need to feel this out a bit longer before deciding.

Rent a dang truck and dolly/trailer and get it home. Dont sell it and lose your ass and chase the buzzards away trying to buy parts.

This should be no brainer easy.

headgasket blew, cracked head. when they went to throw on the head today, they noticed a cracked piston. at this point i'll probably just pay the shop what i owe and try to get someone from uship to haul it up for me unless i can get help from someone locally that isn't going to charge 4.5k to throw in a motor.

It would be cheaper to get a uhaul truck and trailer and do it yourself.
Way cheaper. Get it home...and fix it there where you are not rushed into mistakes.

As suggested above I would get it shipped home and then take your time and source out a motor for it.

Im right by Omaha, Ne, and could give you a hand. There are a few yards around that have engines. One in the city that has a running 22r for 650$ And We could do it in my shop if you can get it here.

thanks for the offer, unfotunately it's been tough finding someone to ship it up here as it is through uship that's within my budget. i picked the truck up for 4.5k... if someone wanted it for 3k i'd take it. otherwise i guess i'll keep trying to get it shipped up here to get fixed. thanks again for any offers for help.

Get a UHaul and car-dolly man. You just spent 4.5K on it why sell it for 3K? Just get it home and see what all you can do.

I'm really feeling sorry for you too, buddy. I blew the HG in my 89 4Runner 3 months after I got it and it totally bummed me out. But, I got on yotatech and figured out what I needed to do to get the sucker running. Pulled the engine out and had a shop do the full rebuild, brand new head, new crankshaft for $1600. Was I hoping I'd be $6K into my $3K truck? Absolutely not... BUT! Am I now glad to have a $6K truck with a virtually brand spankin' new engine in it? You bet!

Good luck with it, a motor is an important part of a truck, but it's far from the only one. You got a good starting point and don't let the fact that your $4.5K in the hole convince you to make a decision you'll regret. Losing $1500 is the same as spending $1500 in the end.

PS: This looks like your chick is throwing an awfully ominous FACEPALM
