New Tools, Man that's one big socket!

I ran ti Sears over the weekend. The wife wanted a new frig so I thought I would get a little something. I know I could have spent a lot less and got a pressed metal one, but I like the looks of Big cool sockets., I also got the 3/4 to 1/2 converter. I do have a 3/4 breaker bar (helps with VW bugs rear axle nuts, 300 ft/lbs) but my torque wrench is 1/2.

Those Toyota front axle nuts do not get much torque anyway just pre-loading, not worried I will break anything with the adapter. Looks good.

Sears is always so nice, they have never asked me "So...how big of a pipe did you have on that ratchet anyways??" They just smile and exchange them for me, this time I busted a 14mm 6pt deep well socket, removing a front rotor, those are difficult for me to secure and wrench at the same time to separate from the hub, so I had a 6pt to not round them any.

The ratchet still worked great but I busted the plastic tab off the changes direction, I miss the ones that were metal.

I prefer the pressed sockets, since they are the correct size and a 6 point vs a 12 point.

I agree with the 6pt over 12pt, but since they do not see a lot of ft/lbs I went with the regular socket, the size is really close, if you convert 2 1/8" it comes out to 53.95mmm guess that is close enough for Government work, seems to work, the nuts drop right in, I have a tendency to use sockets for other things like driving seals and such, so having a thicker socket might come in handy. I will need to take a file to all of the axle nuts as the PO(s) have buggered them up getting them off in the past, I can see that as a "trail fix" but in the shop/garage that's just not the way I do it. I took them off with a set of big pliers, (really didn't take much, they just had a lot of grease on them) but will need the torque wrench for proper installation.

Wish I still had my VW, long story short, New Years eve night, lady comes out of the bar and drifts over and hits it (parked in front of the house) doing 35 mph, with out hitting the brakes, put it up the front steps and knocked the door in on my neighbors house! No insurance, tons of kids and living off the state. My wife used to work in retail, one day they were getting rid of a few clothing fixtures, I found a 6' chrome bar that was very thick, it worked perfect with my breaker bar, I would heat the nut, have two people sit inside and one person hold the brakes and me and another guy would pull hard!!!!

I love my CP Deep Impact set I got for $200 from Matco, sizes from 10mm up to 36mm, all to fit on my beast of a 1/2" IMpact gun w/ 1,100 lb.ft of breakaway torque (it's loud as crap and annoys the General Service guys when the doors are down in the shop) and my Matco 88 1/2" 2.5' long ratchet/breaker bar combo

and that looks like Ball Hitch socket, lol
