Don't use 4x4 lumber. Get a piece of railroad tie and saw it off the length you need. Much more stable.

Bought an Astro 2 1/2 ton floor jack from the Cornwell dealer about 20 yeasr ago, still workin great.

The Big Red or low boy Lincoln copy? I have two of the Lincoln type that I got as refurbished from Astro when I was a Cornwell dealer 10+ years ago. They are still going strong, good jacks and I sold tons of those things.

Most affordable jacks are now disposable. So I would shop price and ease of return, the Costco jack looks good and their return policy is great.

That michelin one at sam's is good. I work there in the tire shop and we use one all the time. We've had it for about 2 years
