Nice find! My dad has used his old Lincoln 220 since I was a kid and that old beast still burns plenty of metal.

Stick welding is awesome, but really you can't do very thin metal with it (which is fine unless you are into body work). I think for really thin stuff you have to go to wirefeed, I don't know all the physics behind it but I believe the thinner the wire, the less heat and therefore it won't burn holes in sheet metal. I've tried to do thin metal and it just seems to burn the material away faster than I can melt the rod to it, but the problem could just be me.

Haha. So after all this hype, My wiring set-up is not going to work with a 220v welder.

..But. My friend and co-worker who is an electrician and has been a certified welder in the past, was explaining to me that the newer 110v stick welders would have no problem doing up to 1/4" plate, which is really all I need to be able to do up to.

So the hunt for a 110v is on

Go buy a MIG then, if you want to do 1/4inch plate, lol.
Our Lincoln Electric does well through 1/4inch, it's the 140 amp version i think.
plus, mig is just so darn easy to use. especially with flux core.
Just plug and play, really.

Yeah I'll probably get a flux core mig, even though peeps are like OMG NO. FLUX CORED SUXORS. There are a few welder stores around that maybe will have 110v or 120v stick.

flux core isn't THAT bad..
the welds aren't as pretty, but a grinder and some extra time solves that problem.
it won't penetrate as deeply into thicker stuff over 1/4
