Softopper..Design change or one of a kind

so ive had this type of Softopper on my truck for a while now, really like it have had no problems with it at all .
http://www.softopper.com/Softopper_M...04Runner%20All
But a friend just got one and its just a little different than mine for one and the main reason for this thread is the main bar across the cab up front is now a 2 piece deal instead of like mine a 1 piece channel all the way across.

well this 2 piece aluminum channel is now put together with bolts and nut serts of some kind and looks like will cut up the original 4runner rubber moulding real good .. just wondering if theres anyone out there with the same and if this is really a new change for this top .

after this pick we took a dremmel and file to the bolts, its better but still not great.

Did they do that to save on shipping costs, with smaller packaging? I really want a Killer Toy Top, but unless I find a smokin' deal on a used one, I'll likely end up with a Softopper. Most everyone seems to have good feedback on them. Thanks for posting this, RMA.

Adam it came packaged in what looked to be the same type of box as far as i can remember, that one piece came already assembled so it was the same length.
a couple of other small things that are different now is the padding or sheath for the round tube bars .. mine came with 4 pieces now they come with only 2 pieces also the brackets now have elongated holes in them instead of just a regular round hole .. this works better for fine adjustments when first installing the one long cross bar on the cab.

I got one this spring and it has the one piece. The only thing I would change is the chrome plated clips that are used to pull the top down. Mine are already starting to rust. They also made a 4runner top for me without any side windows at my request.
