Running Review: General Ameritrac SUV

On my parent's 4Runner,. we were running the stock 265/70R16 GY RT/Ss. We had maybe 3/32 of tread left, so they were begging to be replaced. Since one was losing air massively (went from 40PSI to 8PSI overnight), they just went and replaced it.

Since I go to school during the mornings, my dad, with very little knowledge about what tires are good and what are bad, besides the treadwear warranty, went and had them replaced. I printed out a TireRack page of BFG A/T 265/75R16 so he could bring to the tire place, along with a page of Kumho Ecsta STX 275/70R16.

When he went to the tire place, they didnt have the BFGs or Kumhos. They told him both of those tires were junk anyways. They gave him a set of General Ameritrac SUV 275/70R16 for $590 mounted/balanced.

This was this past Monday.

Yesterday, it was raining out. I was driving around, and I could break the tires loose with very little effort, WHILE GOING STRAIGHT.

This morning, in the dry, the traction was a little better. It took more effort to break them loose. I still have to be in 4WD to turn from my street onto the main road, or else I wont move. I could get them to spin when turning very easily.

It started raining again today. Again, no traction at all. They broke loose with a kick of the throttle.

Im going on the wheeling trip Saturday. We'll see how these pieces of crap do off the pavement.

wow I forgot I made this thread.

Im the 2.5 months (I think thats what it is), Ive gone through mor ehtan half the tread.

They did pretty well off road. Didnt spin too much. Ive used them in a couple recovery pulls, and i still didnt get slipping. They arent too great int he sand though.

Im not going to bother seeing what these will do in the snow. Im scared. Im putting my Toyos on.
