SteveO on Rocker Knocker in Moab

For those of you who don't know much about Moab's Rocker Knocker in Pritchett Canyon. This obstabcle is an axle buster. A couple years ago, I exploded a outboard CV joint on this obstacle.

Today, the 4Runner walked right up.

Here are some pics of the awesome obstacle, and video will be posted when I get back from moab. Right now, we are sitting in a Pizza joint with free wireless, so I was able to get some shots loaded.

The pictures are in order of the easy walk. By the way, we did the entire trail by ourselves. No counter balance was necessary (even though it looks like I should have some)....or spotting, it was pretty much a text book line. It was easier than some of the other obstacles on this trail.

if u clik the scroll button on ur mouse and let it scroll down automatically and a medium speed it looks like it is driving instead of looking at individual pics. Its sort of like a fast slide show. I think i have ADD dont worry bout me.

Never heard about it being that off camber. There would be some serious damage to the seat covers from being puckered up so hard!

is that pizza joint Zach's? I know that they are a hotspot. Never been up pritchet personally but I have friends with 4 '85 4runners and trucks that love it up there. I personally dont think my taco could handle much of that stock. but I love the Cane creek area of moab! Try "behind the rocks"?? Iv heard many a carnage storys from back in there.

Crazy line SteveO...glad to see you made it up with out incident. You had to be at least 35 degrees.

At the end did you go up the "rock pile" or the under cut ledge bypass?

BTW, you will have to run Jaws of Death sometime, killer trail. You would enjoy it.

I remember that day...you also had a torn boot before we even started the run. Nice pics Steve. I also saw your Runner in the recent 4WD Toy Owner.

Thanks guys. Much appreciated. Unfortunately, I havn't even received my copy of 4WDTO yet. But being here in Moab is just plain awesome. Today we did Cliff Hanger, which has been totally changed. The 3.5 foot drop off on the ledge is completely gone! Nevertheless, it was still a great trail.

I was thinking of running Moab Rim (just off of Kane creek). But the grave site at the base of the trail, changed my mind. You can see sections of this trail from the road, and it looks like a rollor coaster ride. So, tomorrow, we are going to Lions Back and Potatoe Salad Hill. We are taking it easy tomorrow.

I think I prop the camera to the front bumper so you all can get a nice view of what its like to drive Lions Back. Carole (wife) says she wants to go up on Lions Back, we'll see if she changes her mind when we get there.

anyhow.....glad you all liked the pics. When I get back, I'll get the video footage of Rocker Knocker up so you all can see the climb in motion.

The internet hotspot is indeed Zachs.

Yes, the lean certainly felt like 35 degrees, and I think my little dash mounted JDM inclinometer was maxed out (30 degrees). Which makes me feel great about this 4Runner's height and being able to tackle tough trails. I have a great break-over angle, and the lean this 4Runner can take is pretty sick.

BTW, in case anybody was wondering.

Rear tire pressure was 12psi
Front tire pressur was 9.5psi
Rig weight was about 5400lbs

And we did use the A/C quite a bit! Gota love the hermatically sealed cabins in the heat!

Its a done deal...

Today I strapped the tripod to the roof rack, and then attached the camera to the tripod. I'll have a still photo of this setup pretty soon. The scene starts off looking at the tracks on Lion's Back. I go down the hill and then onto the Lion's Back. The really freaky spot is where I get up to the top and turn around. I was watching the video playback, and got a real andreline rush when the view of the ground just falls away. What a rush. So, the video shows coming down as well, its pretty exciting. I'll get it up there as soon as possible. Plus, you won't hear me saying over and over again just how "scared I am". I think I saw somewhere on the net some guy filming Lions Back with a camera inside his jeep. What I really remember was the drama of him going off about how scared he was. Too funny.

As for Potatoe Salad Hill. No thanks. That hill was really dangerous. I got some pics to wet some of your all's appetites though. As well, I got pics of the Moab Rim trail. No doubt pics will not do this trail justice. Its just plain scary.

Anyhow. We are coming home tomorrow. I'll try and bust out the film tomorrow night or the next day. I know I have a dinner reservation tomorrow night, so I'll see how far I can get.

One thing is FOR SURE, you guys are gonna LOVE this video!
