Soldier Pass Road - Sedona, AZ 7/22/06

Located near the intersection of Highways 89A and 179 in the middle of Sedona, is this short, but very scenic trail. I ran it with the family aboard along with our friends, Mike & Krista, following in their 2006 Tacoma Double-Cab 4WD.

On the way to Sedona, heading out of Flagstaff. An FJ Cruiser has me in his sights...

Quick Roll Call at the start of the trail...

Smitty puttin' his new work truck to good use...

Totally staged...

Another shameless shot...

A cute kid (yeah, he's mine) posing for the camera with Sedona red rocks in the background.

A shot from across the way as my Runner sits atop the slick rock above Seven Sacred Pools

Standing safely on an overhang looking into Devil's Kitchen - a natural sinkhole.

This is one big hole in the ground!

Descending the most "difficult" section of the trail - steep rocky steps heading back from Devil's Kitchen. 20 deg angle if you can't tell.

The "alternate" path out...

Sedona is a great place to wheel...must have been a bit cooler than Phx. I have never been to that spot, but have wheeled Broken Arrow and Schnebley Hill (sp?)

Thanks for sharing

We headed to Flag to escape the heat and definitely enjoyed much nicer weather up there this weekend. Some heavy rain on Fri and then light rain on Sat & Sun. Sedona was still pretty hot though when we hung out there on Sat. I was intending to run Broken Arrow this weekend, but after having some traction issues (read: open diff) on the section leading to Devil's Kitchen on Soldier Pass Road, I thought I might not be well suited to give BA a try. We left Sedona taking Schnebly Hill out because traffic was BAD - tons of visitors trying to get to Slide Rock had the road backed up for miles. But for whatever reason, Schnebly seemed to go down in quality since the last time we ran it - over a year ago. Let me tell you that driving 11 miles on a rocky, dirt road at any speed faster than a crawl, with a family aboard is a totally different experience (read: no fun). Talk about a headache - we (or I should say my wife and 4-year old) all voted that Schnebly Hill Rd is definite NO GO from here on out. Tedious and painfully annoying is a great description of the ascention of Schnebly Hill Rd.
