My new toy!
Okay so I was badly in need of a new computer. Loooong load times and nowhere near the media ability I want/need.
So say hello to my new APPLE!
I'm having a hard time working on this so I have a feeling I'll be logging in on PC until I can figure this out.

Did you get the MacBook Pro?
OS X is an entirely different beast from Windows, though once you get used to a couple of things, it's actually much easier to use. If you have any problems or questions, post 'em up and we'll try to help. There's a few Mac users on the forum already.

M9691LL/A PowerBook G4 12", 1.5GHz, 512MB PC2700, 80GBHD, SuperDrive, Airport Extreme, BT 2.0, Geforce FX Go5200 w/64MB, FW400, SuddenMotionSensor
I have only had time to play with it for a collective 30 minutes and even that short amount of time most of it was buried in the manual. My 1st post for this thread was off of the Mac. I miss the right-click

Welcome to the world of "the rest of us"... You've made a great decision to switch to Mac OS.
I'm happy to help you with any OSX questions.
Drawing programs? I'd start by getting the Adobe Creative Suite 2, it includes Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign (for page layout creation) and GoLive (for web design).

Okay so now I'm starting to explore.
Are there any downloads that I should make a priority?
I haven't loaded anything but updates but I'm thinking of downloading DIVX bundle for Mac, some kind of program that will let me view WMVs, etc.
Any suggestions?
Freeware is STRONGLY preferred

A WMV file that I made wouldn't play so I was thinking that there has to be a better program out there.

Download this for WMV files. It converts them on-the fly and plays them in quick time. VERY nice.

I would consider myself to be somewhat of a mac geek. If you are looking for good freeware drawing with layers and the same basic layout as PS, put in your software cd (that came with the computer) and install X11. Then, go to the apple website and download Gimp.
Windows Media Player for OSX is seriously lacking but it works if you dont use any of the stop,start,rewind etc buttons.
I don't know what kind of stuff you use your computer for other than that, but post up and I think I can point you toward some freeware.

I'm mostly going to be using my Mac for media projects. I'm still poking around a little in iMovie. I've got an external 100GB hard drive for the files so that I can free up every possible amount of space.
I've downloaded the Flip4mac so that I could view the WMVs on Quicktime. I was debating on DL'ing Media Player... thanks for the tip!
Also thanks for the tip for the drawing software. I'll have to look into that later.

I really think you'll like Macs. You can do most anything you want to on them besides a few games. I have mine dual booting OSX and linux for "even more" flexibility

Don't listen to all the PC users, they are just in denial. Hold control (ctrl) down while clicking and you will be in for a treat.
Another free DL is Adium if you use any sort of IM service. Plus its extremely customizable which is cool.

Adium is based on the open source project GAIM (Gnu AIM) which has been out for quite a while. It's making great strides, but if you only have AIM, I suggest iChat for ease of use and if you want tabbed chats for iChat, then do a google search for Chax and download it. It's worth it even on dial up in my opinion (of course I have cable, so i dont know about dial up much anymore )
