I couldnt find a good spot for a CB so I put a cobra 75 WX in. Its the one with most the functions in the mic. It works great. When I know I wont be using it I pull it out, it has quick disco,and keep it in the house in a crown royal bag. I use a K40 4' whip, great antenna. I keep it in the toolbox when not using the CB. I put the mount on the left fender close to the cab so when I go into short parking lots I can reach the antenna from the cab and not drag it across the top.

The Cobra 18, 19, Uniden 510 and 520 models are small, yet compact. They can and have been fit into dash locations such as lower dash and ashtray spaces. And yes, all the way to Australia and South Africa... By the way, ever see anyone light up a long fluorescent light bulb in their hand with no electricity? PM me, I am planning on taking pictures...

i bought a 3 ft wilson tunable atnenna, a heavy duty spring, and i need a hood mount and some coax now and im good! noone here locally sells the hood mount like bob has in his write up.
anyone have an extra one? i am looking to mount next to the left tail light just like the write up.

oh yeah and i got the cobra 19 ultra III! 37 at wally's world.

He's not kidding! I've not heard Africa yet, but when conditions are good, Australia and Japan (and sometimes Mexico) come in so loud on Ch. 11 that it is almost hard for the locals to get a break. Some folks have inadvertently made DX contacts when skip is rolling on minimum power. It's almost like trying to get a break on the bowl when skip is in season!

First of all i have the weather stations and i do admit that when i am out camping in the middle of no where, i do find myself checking it at least once a day, just to see what the temp. or weather is for the day. all in all i like it. but as for as the actual radio goes you have to ask yourself what you are going to be using it for. If it is just going to be on the trail, then ANY cb with a properly tuned antenna will work great. Whether its a shorty Firestick or a long ass 102" whip antenna, just make sure you get your SWR's tuned in (get a SWR meter and get them within reason like 1.5 or less so you dont fry your radio). Before I knew anything about the CB world, I just went out and bought a Cobra 18 WXSTII and a 36" Firestick for my truck. I works great for the trail and around town locally. I mainly got it for the ease of installation under my cd player. (fits like a glove) But now that I am getting more into the hobby, I wished I did my homework and bought something that can be "peaked & tuned" and perhaps had some other mods done to it to make my radio work like a champ. Soooo... What I am getting at is: If you want a great cb go with a Cobra 25/29 or a Uniden 68/78. But a cheap-o one is good for just using on the trail, but more importantly a good antenna like a wilson or predator, or even a 102" whip antenna! A crappy radio with a good antenna will out perfom a Great radio with a crappy anteanna any day of the week!! but make sure you tune your SWR's!!
