Stereo Opinions Sony vs Alpine
SO I'm looking at these two different stereos for a possible factory replacement...
Sony CDX-F7700
Alpine CDA-9827
So now the issue is comparisons,
Shipped Prices-Pretty darn close
Sony- $209.89
Alpine- $206.82
Power- Approximately the same
Sony- 52x4 Max, 23 W RMS
Alpine- 50x4 Max, 18 W RMS
The Sony has better sustained power, an important consideration
Both are Satellite Ready, support Mp3s and CD Changers, both have removable faces...
IMO the Sony is a better looking player, but Im not too concerned with that if the Alpine is OBVIOUSLY superior in audio clarity and what not. I don't have any special eqipment (Amps, changers), but may get a sub a few years from now.
I get the feeling the Sony will have better visibility in most situations, T/F?
Both of these will fit easily into my DIN in my 2nd gen I assume.
So, what say the masters of audio?
Edit: Another thing, the Sony's CD slot is covered by the face, less likely to get clogged with dust?

I'm looking at that same Alpine actually.
The main thing I like, besides not supporting the ever increasingly frightening Sony global monopoly, is that the Alpine will hook directly the the Alpine six disc changer. The changer supports MP-3s as well, so you can jam lots of songs onto those six cds and have ton of music at the ready.
One more thing, Alpine is gearing up its release of it's own iPod controller which will allow you to control the Pod through the head unit. A first as far as I know.
Audio quality? That's the nice thing about a first gen; that it isn't exactly soundproofed.

i went with the alpine just because I wanted the open slot for CD's. Not a fan of having to fold away face to change disks. Personal preference only, though!

Even though I can get an employee discount on a Sony thrgouh a friend I'm going to be getting an Alpine most likely. I have most of my CD collection, 15GB ripped to WMA variable bitrate, so that's the way to go for me. Sony does not support WMA.
