Kenwood XXv-01d HU
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the 25th anniversary Excelon XXV-01d headunit. Found a pretty good deal on one and from its specs, it seems to be a pretty impressive headunit.
Anybody?

Never tried that exact one, but my cuz has a double din excelon tv/ hu and it works amazing. Kenwood's excelon stuff seems to be pretty top notch, the low end stuff (walmart stuff) really brings theyre name down tho, they should market excelon as a different brand...

Thanks Greg. I totally agree with you, the last time I messed with them was a few years ago and it was some of their higher end stuff, which seemed pretty nice.

Hmm.... Not many Kenwood fans here I guess. Oh well, think I'll give it a shot and hopefully I can give some opinions on them next week sometime.

No problem. It looks and feels like a sweet deck....alot heavier than the Alpine its replacing. I was wanting to put it right in today but it started raining like crazy so as soon as I get done working tomorrow I'll be hard at it.

Got this thing installed, and WOW what a sweet looking headunit. Its loaded with features, that i might be half way through.
I am having one problem now. Im noticing some noise in my components that wasnt as evident with my older Alpine. I thought it might be in the RCAS, but unplugged them and it was still there, which should take care of the rcas and the headunit...i think anyway. So now Im thinking grounds or maybe crossover interference. Maybe sombody can chime in on this. I have a 2nd gen runner and have JL XR 650s mounted in the doors with the components mounted in the stock speaker location. Has anyone that's mounted their crossovers there noticed any interference? Also, could the fact that my factory speaker wires are still live and there close to the crossover be part of the problem? Anybody?

Probably not the best wording. What Im trying to say is that the stock speaker wires are still there and hooked up to the headunit. They're not in use since im using the front rca preouts to power the components, but they are still there behind the crossover.
I meant to leave them disconnected when i made the wiring harness, but forgot. I guess tomorrow I might try grounding the headunit and disconnecting the speakerwires while Im at it.

So im assuming you are powering you speaker from the RCA's to an amp, then to crossovers, then to seakers. You shouldnt have a problem with your stock wires still connected. I usually disconnect them just incase there is a short somewhere in the wiring that would mess up the deck. You said the noise is only there when you are using the radio. Maybe the AM/FM reciever in your new head unit is more preciese, or slightly different in some way. So you hear a little excess noise when listening to the radio.

Oops, I meant to say when the headunit is on. The radio Im kinda used to, since I don't always get a crystal clear signal anyway. The CD player makes it a little irritating.

no kidding, thats what i get for trying to do this quick. :pat:
The noise comes on with the headunit, doesnt change pitch at all, with anything. Not with RPMS, using anything electrical or anything.
I tried moving my ground on the amp, but got the same thing, I guess I might do some research here and try to check out my grounds on my 4runner.

So other than changing over the deck, you left everything exactly the same way. You had the speakers running off the amp off of the alpine? If this is the case, I would deffinitly blame the deck then. Its not a grounding or power issue if the noise doesnt change with RPM.
