hinge on custom bumper
1st real question in quite a while. i have a kennesaw mtn acc. rear bumper and the "hinge" that the tire swings out on absolutly sucks. are there any good hinges out there that i would weld on my bumper to make it open and close easier? i looked on rockwares site and didnt see any hinges that they sell individually, but, that is something that i would like...hopefully this made sense

I personally prefer the type of hinge that Robinhood, Steve, used on his rear tire carrier. Check out his site for the pics. It is a double hinge type just using plain old bolts. Works well and certainly easily replaceable.

Doink: You should call Matt at Rockware. There is a lot of stuff he sell/makes that is not on his website. You also might want to check the hinge Christo Slee ( Slee Offroad ) uses on his bumpers.. They looked pretty beefy when I saw them in his shop.

heres a picture. you can see the hinge fairly well. its just a long bolt going through the body of the bumper with a silver nut on the bottom....any ideas?

The way it sounds, both Rock Ware and Slee will have a better spindle than Rockstomper. There's really no need to look elsewhere unless you have something local. I didn't realize those KMA ones only came with a bolt. Wow.

this weekend, i tried to take off tire carrier to lube up the"hinge" aka bolt. i went about this by getting my hilift, and jacking up from the bottom of the bolt so it would slide upware and out of the hole. however, it wouldnt budge. is there any substance that could perhaps help me take it out easier? aka..wd40 or something? perhaps silcone based lube?

Wow that's stuck. Did you remove the tire from the carrier, I'm assuming you did. Try turning the carrier back and forth to wiggle it out, while using a normal jack and some blocks of wood (that way the hinge won't slip off the jack). My hinge/bolt is pretty good so far, I can adjust the tension on the hinge easily and the whole thing turns just fine.
But you can still open and close it, right? It's just tough?

I like PB Blaster and I live in the rust belt.
If it is really pesky, I would Hi-Lift the carrier arm off the truck. Or get wood and beat the tar out of it carefully.

yeah, its pretty hardcore stuck.
i tried putting the hi lift under the part that swings out (i think this is what flygt was talkin about) and it just lifted the whole rear of the car instead of just the tire swing. im thinking im pretty much screwed here

Dude, i have the same bumper, and had the same problem, and if you remeber i told you along time ago that when you get it, make sure it stays lubed up, or it will freeze up. I took the problem up with Kyle at KMA, and we worked on it for awile, and finally got the damn thing out, grinded off all the rest, lubed it up, and put it back in. It works like a charm now, better than new. Kyle didnt charge me, and he did all the work, so if i were you, i would give him a call and make a time for you to come in and get it done.

4x4lab also had some uber hinges.
Hit it with a little veinerschlider and hope things work out! Those German's know what they are doing in the automotive world.

no, he didnt charge me, and i have been running without the tire carrier for awile, and it was fun, but i put it back on tis weekend, and added some synthetic oil to it, and it flys open, i just open it alittle, give it a slight push, and it just fly open on its own, it will slap the other side if i push it too hard.
Just call him, tell him the problem, and he will fix for free, and then just keep it oiled up
