New uppers links built for rear of 3rd gen.
So after bending the lower control arms, and having the upper control arms bushings go out on me, I decided to build custom links. I just finished building the uppers, and they turned out pretty good. I Used...
1.25" X .120 wall DOM tubing
5/8" Chrome alloy Rod ends with 30 degress high misalignment spacers
Chrome alloy bungs (tube adapters)
2" overall dimension Poly Performance bushings
Grade A hardware
Used the rod ends on the frame, bushings on the axle.
If after testing these links out, they work better than stock, I might try to sell a few sets. Would anybody be interested if I kept the price resonsible?

yea man i deff like the idea of the heim joints expecially bc that what i used on my steering when i had my ball joints on my tie rods when jus love convertin things to heim joints haha

Once I have the lower links built, I plan on moving the axle back about an inch, to allow me to trim more of the fender. I am running 35's.
But overall the truck does feel alittle "tighter" on the street in the back. Can't wait to see how it is with the lowers built.

Yeah I am with ya, I would convert my tie rods to heims, but to me, it seems if I have to do that, its time to SAS.

Custom 3rd gen 4Runner links!
So my bushings where toast on my rear links on my '96 Runner, and a rock bent my driver side lower link a few months ago. So it was time to building them stronger, and build them to allow to axle to move around more (since my IFS sucks for the rocks ....) Anyway here is what I got right now. I am already thinking about cutting off the bushings on the uppers and doing heims on both sides. This weekend I will mess around with how far back I can push the axle to allow me to cut more to reduce tire carnage on the rear fender. The only thing stoping my travel right now is my shocks, and I have not figured out what to run yet, but probably a 14" shock. Let me know what you think....Sorry about the large photos

IMHO, this is far and away the single best mod (in terms of bang-for-buck) you can do to the link setup on 4Runners.
My uppers are 1.75x.120 wall and the lowers are 2"x.25 wall

I have a 2001 4runner in need of rear trailing arms or it seems also called rear control arms. Dealer wants 500 for them. Just the bushings are gone and the dealer tells me I cant buy upper bushings for these things. Can anyone help? I do my own work but am not a mechanic. How much are yours cpizzle42.

I would need to know the length of your upper links, from the middle of the bushing to middle of the other bushing. Also are you looking to just replace what you have, which is just bushings on both sides?

I agree. I just need longer shocks now. And limiting straps. What material did you use? I used chrome alloy to try to keep to smaller sizes to keep the weight down. Not that it matters all that much with my 5,000 pound pig.

I used regular (not cromoly) DOM, mostly because of price. Even at 5200 lbs for mine, I don't mind as much if the weight is low.
Don't get too excited about shocks. I'm using the short body 10" travel Bilstein 7100's - I don't know you could do much more without going through the floor.
No reason to have a gazillion miles of travel in the rear and IFS up front. The "imbalance" in the travel will likely make the truck LESS stable than more.
