Rollbars

Got a quick question, for a rollbar to actually be useful in the event of a roll over, does it have to mount to the frame or can it mount to the inside of the bed, Thanks

those "rollbars" are as helpful in a rollover as a "brush gaurd" is in a front end collision.

They bolt to the bed, as an "accessory". They should just call them what they are....light bars.

Are the roll bars in the 84-89 4Runners tied into the frame?

No, just bolted to the body. But they also have a strong fiberglass cover to assist them. And the body is reinforced as well.

Thanks guys for saving me from a bad purchase. I havent been here to long, but I love yotatech so far. If anybody has any sites where I could find rollbars made
for which the name implies, that would be awesome.

roll bars look cool, can mount lights onto them, and thats about where their usefulness ends. i mean it might protect your head, but without being mounted to the frame, i doubt it. only reason i have one instead of a shell is because i got it for like 10 bucks. if you want somethin that will protect you, fab up an interior or exterior roll cage. probably a 6 or 8 point. X it, dont square it.

Welcome to YT.
Nobody sells one. A "real" roll bar will require lots of custom fabrication and money that usually entails an exo cage.
If your just looking for protection in the event of a roll-over, theres a couple in-cab cages available from here or
here.

Another option would be All-Pros 'flat bed kit'...

the kit itself is legal, no problem, but you might have to make some modifications in certain areas to meet your local laws. For instance, fenders/mudflaps and/or bumper at a certain height

Has anyone ever seen a kit for a Baja light rack which you can move up and down for clearance from the cab?
