Replacing winch cable on Warn M8000

I am going to be replacing the cable on my Warn M8000 soon. Summit has 100ft of 5/16" 8000 lb cable for $45 but doesnt have the eyelet that bolts to the winch. I found the eyelet it is Warn #16463 Wire Rope Terminal Kit. My question is how do you attach it to the wire? Some kind of heavy duty crimper? Thanks for reading.

Apparently you just feed the line through and take a hammer to it. Works for me.

I sure would not trust that to winching a vehicle out.

I would make a tool to put a proper crimp. a hammer really can`t put uniform pressure no matter how big it is and how hard you hit.

Then maybe the winch is just for show??

I think it would be ok. From what I've read it is just there to help you spool the wire. It isn't "load-bearing" so to speak.

Once you have three wraps tight on the drum there will be very little pressure on the end
