Lift blocks on Front

Lift blocks on Front
I was just wondering could you run blocks under your front leaf springs? I see a bunch of people doing it, but i have had others tell me that they'll just spit out. And obvioulsy i can see where that would cause some problems. We dont wheel in the rocks down here just muddy trails. So my question is can i do it without tearing anything up and what will it hurt? Thanks guys

I wouldn't ever do it, but honestly, if it's not a daily driver and it's just a mud truck that needs a huge lift and is only driven in the mud, I've seen way worse set ups. I don't have any experience with lift blocks in the front. And as for lift blocks in the rear, that's another internet "it's horrible to run this...." (just like body lifts) thing. Plenty of people run blocks in the rear and some wheel rigs with blocks harder than people with the "proper" suspension set up with no problem. I've never seen a truck spit out a block. Although the front may be different...and like I said, I'd never do it, but if that's your only optoin might as well try it as long as it's just a mudder. You would have tons of axle wrap and wheel hop though...and maybe some steering problems?

well i got shackles and drop hangers in the front and i cant seem to figure out why i still have death wobble, this is the why im asking the question. i figured maybe its the shackles causing the problem, I've tried everything i know. when i accelerate to around 35-40mph it starts violently shaking but when i power thru it, it goes away till i turn or brake. And i need the lift to clear both sets of my tires. And yeah i drive it on the road.

the picture in my avatar is a guys in north fla, i went down there for a bog and it was there. i had to take some pictures. thats my inspiration lol my truck is in my profile there all old pics but i can get some new ones tomorrow. you want pics with 40" swampers(street tires) or 38" firestone tractor tires(off-roadin tires)?

Look at the front, there now dropped down 4 inches to correct my pinion angle, that is why im asking about blocks under the front to fix the problem.

what psi do you run in the street tires? have you played with the pressure to see if it affects the death wobble? recheck that all the bolts are tight on the springs and u-bolts.

to fix the pinion angle you should cut off the spring perches rotate the housing and reweld. or try to find a high-pinion 3rd member from a landcruiser. front blocks are dangerous. what springs are you using in the front?

stock leaves with add-a-leaf. I have checked and retightened all the bolts on the front end. I havent' played with the air pressure at all, when i put new shocks under the front and made new shock brackets it helped alot but its still there and when i back up the whole truck starts rolling back and forth until i lose control, scary i know lol

OK, you can disregard just about all the "advice" given above.
You have death wobble - 99% of the time that means 2 things:
- something is loose. You need to check EVERY bolt/rodend in the front, should be seriously tight
- your caster angle is too low.
Caster is not really adjustable on a Toyota SFA. If you make the caster better, you will make the pinion angle worse, and vice-versa. The way to fix it RIGHT is to cut and rotate the knuckles, setting both the pinion angle and caster angle where they need to be, and then welding them solid. With the amount of lift and the tire size you want to run, you're gonna have to do a bit more than the minimum.

do you know anyone else that has a toyota that would let you swap tires with them to double check that the problem isn't with the tires? otherwise i'm stumped. i've helped a buddy try to cure death wobble on his tacoma with dana 60's 39 iroks. he ended up having too much air in the front tires and a loose shackle bolt. i've never driven my trail truck on pavement over 20 mph. between the square driveshafts the solid motor and transfer case mounts and the boggers it shakes like crazy, but no death wobble. however i trailer my truck everywhere so it isn't an issue.

i have a set of 33" bald baja claws on there now while i work on it, even with them it does it. I have cut the knuckles and welded them solid. I'm running crossover steering currently, i was thinkin maybe high steer would help??
