The custom ones I have done for some of my customers are built useing a 1in tube sub frame that bolts to the frame of your truck. Then you bolt a simple sheet metal skid plat to the sub frame. This combo makes the skid plat nearly unstopable!
Does this mean that the truck looses an inch of ground clearance with the subframe arrangement?

Yes.

Now as for all of ya that are interested in the subframe skids. I feel that if you do ALOT of rock crawling and I mean ALOT, then I think this is a good investment. But for the average weekend warrior offroader, the simple skidplate design that has been on all aftermarket skids should be fine. The only reason why I state this is because I've beaten my truck on some "interesting" trails and my skids have held up incredibly well. I feel that these skids should last me easily a few years of the same abuse. I figure after a few years it'll start getting deformed at which the upgrade or replacement would be necessary.

Just food for thought as the subframe will decrease your height on the bottom.

I have not made one for the late model 4runner but The one I built for the Tacoma and early 4runners I did not loose any clearence infact It might have even saved some. But I would need to look at the 4runner to get a better idea.

I'd would like a skid for my new 94 Landcruiser which will be my trail rig. Suprisingly(sp) it has no skid plate.

Biff, your LC is a live axle vehicle, it is harder to mount and much less necessary to have a skid on the front of SA trucks. As the suspension compresses the differential moves up and out of the way in most situations. Also to the best of my knowledge your LC has an I6 not a V6 as stated in your sig. FWIW...

Jason currently doesn't have a working design. The only design that is out is either the Mike's or Downey's design. Both of which are not currently for sale. Everything is still pending.

When a skid plate is ready for sale, it will be in the Vendor Section.
