no one will ever make "stronger" front IFS diffs. Why bother? Trail Mart swap and be done. I have never seen a front diff fail on these trucks anyway. Heard about it, never seen it. If you are worried about it, don't drive it like an idiot, and you'll be fine.

Whatever happens--i think it will be a fun build--i will wheel and when it breaks i will fix. I still drive this truck around town also and plan on taking trips in it--that is why i am apprehensive of nixing the IFS.
But--i have also decided that i will go the 35 route. On a side note--i will also be rebuilding/beefing-up the engine--so we will see how that turns out.
I will take pictures and when done pay a stripper to be in the Final Photo

i've got 35's on an arb locked ifs diff. it gets used..hard. as long as you know how to work it and not be stupid...you'll be fine. no need to swap for a solid axle unless you want to burn some money and brag to your friends about how much bigger your enispay has grown...

I'm not really a 'hard' wheeler. I do camping trips into Baja where a 4x4 is needed for an array of obstacles. I get into some hairy situations, and have never had any problems with my 35's. However, I have been stuck many times with 31's in the same areas.
On the note of worrying about the front IFS, well, I think it really depends on how you drive. I watch these amateur 4x4 videos and the guy is just pushing his truck to the absolute max. People look like they don't have a clue on how to drive their crap sometimes! I have been wheeling my truck since I was 16, and even then, I never drove it as hard as I see 40-50 year old idiots trying to pull of crap a 10 year old wouldn't even do.

I have a 99 4 runner with a 6in lift and 35's, it is supercharged and locked, I have retained the IFS cause I drive it on 250 mile rips once a week for work. I love it, I get to drive over things and through things with ease that I could never do with the same rig with only 33's and a 2 in lift.

So final set up i am in the processes of installing--Just an FYI if curious and open for opinions--Should be done by Febuary
--Weasy-ied the heads and cams--
--Doug Thorely Headers--
--High Flow cats and rest of exhaust--
--Detriot Locker in Rear (5.29's)--
--Detriot True Track LSD up front (5.29's)--
--1.5" Roger Brown BL--
--SS#7 and shaved A-Arms--
--Left From Inchworm (5.71 Low gear and twin sticked)--
--Mick Classic II's and 35's (Nitto (Muds) or Yokohama (Muds)
--ORS Alloy Axle Chunks.
That is now the final set up--not including bumper, winch, etc....
Final note--i am not a crazy wheeler so with any luck--i wont go through the IFS stuff to often--hoping the CV's will be the weak link--since i have an extra set already So what do youds think?

35's allow you to roll over most obstacles just because of the size of them.
Their size makes them easier to conquer obstacles as long as you are properly geared,33's will be fine you will just have to work a little harder.
A lot can be done with smaller tires at the sacrifice of body damage.
The larger tires allow you to clear your diffs and longer wheel based rear ends.

im goint throught the same thing keep the 33 10.50 or go up to the 35 12.50 im running open front and rear diff but that is goint to change soon the front is getting welded sometime this week for a little extra traction and gearing is no problem since i did the chevy 262 swap
so what do you guys this will it be worth it to me to to runt a 35 with this set up.

Since you won't be able to turn, you can fit a much larger tire!

Wouldnt weld the front---ohhh no That is why i stayed with an LSD up front--Hopefully the wheel will slip before i pop the front-- --but like the others say--dont you like turning?

well i have maunal hubs so on the road i wouldnt matter and i dont think that in the dirt you would have to much of a turning problem

Twin stick does nothing on a welded diff. He'd have to unlock a hub.
As for turning, it depends on where you live. Out west, we have high traction stuff, and turning with a spooled or welded front is near impossible. East, in the mud, it seems to be pretty easy.
As for 35's, again, depends on where you are. And what type of truck you have. 35's will obviously be bigger, and thus put more strain on your front end. If you feel like that's fine, or are prepared to deal with any breakage out on the trail, then go for it.
