calvinh 'i must be friggin nuts' 1997 4runner limited 2wd to 4wd build up thread
Just as the title says I must have lost my mind. A little background on this truck, this was my wife's prior to us getting hitched. After marriage we bought her a bigger SUV and this became my dd. I'm a contractor so I've used this baby for work almost as much as my pick up. In doing so this thing has taken a beating. I've hauled things in it that my 3/4 ton would have issues with. Its dirty inside, the body is scratched and dented, and the rear suspension is worked. We've all seen 4runners with a saggy rear but this one takes the cake. I've had this thing on the bumpstops so much even they are wore out. A couple of weeks ago I replaced the radiator, fan clutch and thermostat. So why not just start with a 4WD? Here's where this story gets interesting. My wife filed for a divorce in April. This build is something that I had planned for a while and never got around to it. So now its my therapy. She loves this truck and I know the abuse I've put it through has always bothered her a little. When she bought this her criteria was a black limited 4WD. She settled for 2 out of 3. So after the swap and basically a restoration I'm going to give it back to her. A friend of mine rolled his 98 SR5 back in February and I picked it up for a steal so it will donate itself to the swap. I'm not real sure what mods will be done yet but I'm thinking somewhere around a 3" lift and lightly armored. I'll update this as I go and tell any issues I run in to with the swap. I know this has been done several times so anyone that has advice or pointers I'm all ears. Thanks for viewing and I'll keep it updated. And as soon as I figure out how to upload pictures I'll do so.

I guess I should explain without explanation. We're getting divorced because of things I said and did. She's a great person. And this will ultimately be our son's at some point. I had some free time today so I started pulling interior panels and carpet out of the wrecked one. I guess I'm going to do this from the inside out. We have all the dirt bikes in the shop where I'll be doing the swap so right now so space is limited so the suspension and driveline will have to wait until closer to the end of summer. Besides I got more time than money. I promise pictures when I figure out how to shrink them.
