Where to mount my 1000 watt inverter?
Where the heck should I mount my power inverter on my second gen 4 runner?
I was thinking on the rear seat back because it is a big 1000 watt one about the size of a stereo amp but all I have is 2 gauge wire and they say not to go beyond 5 feet of it because of heat issues with the wiring. I also though of under the seat but being a offroader I am worried if I swamp it inside it will fry it so the question is still where to mount it?

I guess I will end up mount it somewhere in the cargo area since it's up high. I think it should be safe if I put a 150 amp breaker on it and wire it into a fuse box like he did in the tech writeup section. I won't do smaller than 4 guage from the fuse box to the inverter though since it draws so much juice. Maybe I'll mount it flush into one of the rear plastic panels I don't know yet.
As I said it's the size of a car power amplifer and it has a cooling fan so tight space mounting isn't really a option because it needs airflow. It measures 11.4"L x 9.4"W x 3.2"H and weighs 6.2 lbs. It has a mesh air intake on the bottom so it looks like it needs some kind of bushing to keep it elevated for proper air flow. So I guess mounting flush on carpet wouldn't be ideal unless it was spaced with bushings keeping it off of the mounting surface.

I've been thinking about getting one of these and putting it in one of the storage compartments in the cargo area. When you need to use it, just open the compartment and leave the cover off so air can get to the unit. The wires could be either routed underneath the vehicle or under the carpet.

I've got mine mounted on top of a rear storage box. The important thing will be to make sure there's decent air flow all around the unit. That has a fan in it, so you'll want to be sure it has a source of fresh air. It won't really get hot enough to "worry about" until you get to about 75% of load (i.e., 750 watts) _continuous_. For example, I spent over an hour running a jigsaw off of mine and the fan never kicked on.

What do the rear cargo compartments look like on yours? I have room in my pass and driver side fenderwells for something that size.... securing it might be an issue though. You could always drill from the cabin into the fenderwell and use some lockwashers or nylock nuts to make sure it stays there.

Well I got the 1000watt one because I thought the more the better right. I honestly wish I waited to get the 1750 watt one since I could run alot more things with that.
I went ahead today and bought about 22 feet of 1 guage wire from a welding shop so I should be set in the wire aspect of hooking it up. I might also reqiure the main ground and the starter wire while I am at it I doubt I'll need all of it to just wire up the inverter.

Mine is screwed to the panel back there.
Mine is screwed to some wood panels that now cover where the stock speakers were.
You could easily do it that way.
I only have about 5' of 8 guage wire from it to the stereo amps distribution fuse box.
It is the brown wire.
The other two 8 guage wires go to the front door speakers, and the other wire is for the subs amp.
