Where to fit 10CD changer?
Hey I’m a newbie member but have been benefiting from the wisdom of Yotatech for a while now and decided it is time to say HI. I am a recent 4Runner owner with a 95 Limited that the previous owner put some good loving into (pics and specs soon to come). Anyway I love my big black beauty and can’t wait to mod the hell out of her. I already got my Flex-A-lite fan in with not much trouble and am salivating over some of the other performance mods I’ve read about. I just need to get over my fear of cutting my baby up under the hood.
My big issue now is that I am trying to install my stereo that I ganked out of my old ride. I have a 10 change CD player and I have no idea where to mount the thing. I would like to mount it somewhere that can be reached from the driver seat and that would be relatively inconspicuous. Dose anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

sounds like one big changer!
within reach of the driver might be a challenge. try sounddomain.com and search your year 4runner and see what others have done. you might get lucky and find someone who has done exactly what youre looking to do.

cd changer mounting location
I mounted my Kenwood 10 disk changer under the passenger seat. When I removed the seat I noticed there were 2 steel tabs under the bottom cushion that were equal to the distance between the two feet of the changer. I just cut two aluminum pieces that matched those feet (see arrow). This acts as a sort of pressure fit when screwed down and sandwiches the steel tabs of the seat between the feet of the changer and aluminum plates I cut. You could probably use wood or acrylic too, but I wanted something more rigid. I like this location because I can reach the door from the driver's seat and because of it "hanging" under the seat, it becomes really hard to see and out of the way (note: I do not have a rear heater).
shot from rear
shot looking through passenger door
arrow showing aluminum plate claming seat tab (sorry so fuzzy)
Hope this helps

Not sure how big your changer is, but I'm planning on removing my rear heater from my center console and concealing an Alpine 6 disk changer in there (not the small new Alpines, but the old 5957S)

Long ago I put a 12 disc Pioneer changer in my 95s right side storage bin in back. Cut a hole at the rear corner of the bin where the cd mag could be accessable and reinforced the rest of the changer with metal brackets so nothing would shake loose. Been over 6 yrs with no probs.
I originally was going to mount it under the front passenger seat but there wasnt enough clearance.

This might be the fix I am looking for. Can you give me more info on the process and some pix when you do it? Thanks

Guys,
In regards to mounting it under the front driver/passenger seats, take some precautions based on these two experiences I've had:
1) Installed cd changer in my wife's 95 Camry. We go visit my brother's house and take the kids to McDonalds. I don't know which one of them did it, but one of them kicked the hell out of the changer (didn't know what it was i think) and it never worked since.
2) Grandma fell asleep in the back of my 4runner. She left the spout top open and that 1 liter of water thankfully flooded onto the Husky Liner. Had I not had that and had a changer installed there, might have fried grandma in my 4runner! j/k

Another with one mounted in the rear bin. Its not reachable, but it works great. And its definately hidden. In my volvo I had my alpine 6disk in the glove box. I didn't see if it would fit in the runner, in your application i would assume not since its a 10. Well, good luck!
