also wh ydo you wnat a stronger alternator.. the stock one is fine for most uses.... but its best to know what your plans are, like if you plan on winching or using the lights without the engine on, then a dual batter ysetup would be better, or things along those lines versus a ho alternator

Maybe he is plowing with it? I know a bud of mine has a yota and he can only plow his driveway quickly before it kills the battery. If it is a cruiser...Mean green makes one for that application. about $360. Ok...also NWOR has high output alternators. have ones at 90, 110, 130, and 160 amp depending on application. website is http://www.northwestoffroad.com/parts/alternators.html

I want to run 4 130 watt lights plus 2 55 watters and a cb. Do I need a HO altenator?

that i think is a 52 amp load, for the lights. the cb is negligible, shouldnt yank much power at all.. why do you need that much lights! anyways does your stock alt give you that much extra ameprage to play with?

Guess I'll have to see what it is. I have heard that all these lights wuld over draw it. I'm going to start with the 2 55 watters an then add 2 135's. I want to mount them on a light bar . i'm planning on some nighrt time runs. Thank for all the help. MUCH appreciated!!! BTW I'm not paying 800 for an altenator. Lol.

i have four hellas that are 13o watts, doesnt put any strain on the alt. doesnt even dim when i switch them on and it is stock. i bet a big part of how it works is what gauge wire you use and how it is setup

yeah, wouldnt the small wire make it hard for the alt to push the power thru the wires to the lights and therefore make the alternator struggle more?

yes but that isnt going to be the problem... the problem will be all the resistance of the little wire trying to drive a huge load, that will create friction, friction=heat... heat melts insulation, cuases shorts and starts fires.....

My 2 130 watt KCs drop my RPMs a little so I think it's legitimate for him to maybe get a higher amperage alt. as long as you know what the amperages will be. Figure out the max amps all of the lights will use then compare it to your stock alt. I know for sure running my 2 KCs plus the winch just took all of the power I had on my old Blazer. Now I don't have a bumper to put my winch on my Runner :cry:

Yeah, my Baja Desert foxes, and even my Hellas tend to put a small strain on my alt. Its stock. I'm gonna go with a Bigger one and a better battery evetually.

but they are expensive, like $400-$500 if i remember correctly.
You could try finding one from another car and adapting it to work in yours, check a junkyard for police cruisers, they have some pretty beefy ones (like 120-150amp).

I personally have a warn winch, a couple 100w floods, and a 300w rms amp and my stocker does just fine, I just upped the idle a few hundred rpm (its at about 1000-1100rpm) and it keeps the voltage right where its supposed to be

Stay away from Mr. Alternator...

Mine went in 6 months... It didn't even have the corect pulley on it, so I had to rev it to roll the windows up full speed... screw that...

I'm glad you said that now. I thought about getting mine from there but I saw a thread not too long ago where someone put in a GM alt. and since I work for a GM dealership I figured I would go that route instead of Mr Alt.

Get an alternator from a 91+ MR2 the one with the electrohydrolic power steering. Make sure you specify tha you MUST have the one for the power steering model.

Those beasts are 170AMS!!!

It bolts up (to the 5VZ) but you may have to change the pully though. Im running the MR2 crank pully too so im not sure if the mr2 alternator pully would line up.

Go to autozone and order a remanufactured one. Even if you dont trade your old one in for the core you will still save at least $200
