TRD headers

I might be upgrading my truck to a 3.4L by trading in my 2.7L. I am considering having the dealer throw on the TRD headers and add it in with the financing. The guy at the dealer said $140 to install, and he wasn't sure about the header price. That seems very cheap compared to what I've found searching around, so I expect it to cost more. So who has some feedback? Yes, I searched first. If my master plan pans out, I will keep the truck normally aspirated. Start with headers, then as time goes on a new muffler. A 6" deckplate will get thrown on the intake right away, and probably an Amsoil filter.

$140 is normal with the engine out of the truck. It would be a piece of cake with the engine out. Could you do it?

Todd (TOR) said he could get the headers for $700 shipped. That's a pretty good deal. Another option is Downey or Edelbrock, which are significantly cheaper.

Ceramic Downeys are about $430.

Hey 96. I read alot of your posts about this same topic, TRD headers vs others. have you chosen one yet? THat's good to hear that $140 sounds decent for installation, I hope they stick to that if I go through with it. the service guy actually gave me guess for the header price that seemed rediculously cheap for TRD, so I didn't even put it in my first post for fear of ridicule! But the guy said he looked into headers for his Tundra and thought they were around $600, So the V6 ones should be cheaper. I can only hope for that, though... If I can get this new truck, I think I will add the headers into my finance and be hooked up right off the bat. I don't really want to try installing them myself, even though I'm "moderately" mechanically inclined. I don't have access to a shop for a DIY project. Today is the last day of the big Toyota sale, but the salesman assured me I can still lock in at a great rate if they find me a truck. (of course he would say that)

I got the part cost, $900+. That's what I figured. I'm not doing it, the V6 will just have to be enough for me.... haha, I'm so pumped I'm getting a new truck!

Are you getting the exact same thing (X-cab Taco)?

Hope it works out for you!

$900 + $140 Install has you at $1,040. If the S/C go on sale like they did in Nov last year, you will only need to fork out $650 above what the headers would have been, and you would have a lot more power!

I think $140 is a great price. The dealer probably hasn't done one of these before. I say that because (unless they have changed the design/install of the TRD headers) a flange needs to be welded onto the headers as part of the install. I had South Bay Toyota (Torrance, CA) install mine. They ended up eating the cost of the welding (they had to send this out).

Enjoy your new toy!

yup. I'll have an identical looking truck, except for a little "V6" badge on the back and a fancy TRD decal on the side. Oh, and of course what's under the hood. The new interior will be a different color, too.
