Throttle body problem

First post on this forum, but I have searched and read what I think is everything related to my problem without finding what I think I need. OK, so I cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body and now I have a fast idle (1500-2000), I removed the throttle body again and cleaned the IAC valve and checked the TPS.....all seems to be fine. After reassembly I notice that the throttle does not return all the way to the stop unless I push on it. I have cleaned and oiled it but it still doesnt bottom out and the dash pot is working fine. Inside the throttle body on one side there is definite scuff marks from the butterfly rubbing. There is no slop in the linkage or bushings and I have no air leaks (I tested with carb cleaner with the engine running) into the TB. Also all vacuum lines are good. I can dump my foot off the gas pedal and my RPMs will sometimes go down to 1000, but not every time. Is it possible to recenter the butterfly? Opinions on a stronger return spring? Is my TB shot? What gives? Anybody?

I'm guessing the TB cable is frayed, the same thing happened to my fiancee's MR2. If that's the case then you *MAY* be able to buy a smaller zip line cable and thread it through. That's what I did for my girl's MR2 and it works much better.

Yeah, I already have the smoking wallet syndrome from my '77 BJ40. Now I am considering the possiblity of the IAC valve being bad as when I was driving tonite when I would let off the gas the engine would "sometimes" have a LOT of engine braking, sometimes not and sometimes it would do it several seconds after I let off the gas. Hell if I know, maybe it'll just fill up with carbon again and be back to normal.
