Tacoma Caliper Rebuild
Anyone have info (or know where I can find it) on how to rebuild the calipers on a 04 Tacoma (4wd 3.4l V6). I need to put on new rotors and pads and decided to pick of the caliper rebuild kits from Toyota ($28). I pretty good with brakes, but always like to look into everything before I start.
Any advice is always appreciated.
Thanks
Bart

i am rebuilding mine from my 80 tonight. all the rebuild kit is 4 piston seals, 4 dust seals and 4 snap rings to hold on the dust seals. for it being a 04 i would not bother unless you are having brake fluid leaking out of one of the pistons. but if you still want to, just remove the caliper (after removing pads and undoing brake hose), loosen the bleeder valve, let fluid drain out. remove snap rings and boots. use a block of wood and put it in between the pistons where the pads go and use compressed air and fill the caliper through the brake line hose hole this will push the pistons out and once they are out peel the oring gaskets out and lube up the new ones with white or rubber grease then install is reverse. not hard but messy and time consuming. good luck
