Hi, I recently purchased a taco, 4x4 and eveytime I use the brakes until a complete stop my drivetrain flexs upward from the momentum and then, Clunks back to original position.

The owner said this was just a "tacoma" trait. can anyone back that statement up or shine some light on the issue. I"m not used to leafs in the rear and I"m wondering If I need a set of traction bars to fix this problem.

I have a 2wd but when I come to a hard stop my tranny or something down there makes a little clunk. I don't know if that's normal tho. Haha

If shocks are old, replace them. They "dashpot" the spring momentum. My 2000 did the same thing until I replaced the rear shocks.

CLUNKS ARE NOT NORMAL!
You have a problem, get a creeper & flashlight and check it out or find someone who can!
If you live in the Northeast or anywhere with harsh winters where they use lots of roadsalt check your frame thoroughly, I have seen a few Tacos (here in Pennsylvania) with severe enough frame rust to necessitate major repairs.
Also check all mounts and bushings.
Your drivetrain should not be moving up and down or side to side in any dramatic fashion!

Had the same problem on my 01 tacoma. It's very common as you will find tons of write-ups if you search TTORA. The problem is at the junction of the drive shaft and differential. It needs to be serviced or re-packed with grease. You may be able to see some play if you get under the truck and look. Look for a grease coating on the shaft that shows movement forward. In my case it was about 1/4 inch. Hope that helps.

That's because you have a manual ( I am jealous ). It is a "trait" of the automatics.

thanks for the responses! I agree divetrain flex is not good. I think vermejo is getting to the heart of this problem. Ok so I'm off to go crawl under this taco.
