When I tried to engage it into 4H again, the lever was in the 4H position, but the 4WD did NOT kick in, and the light failed to come on. After I parked and tried again, still nothing. I tried the N and 4L, and still nothing.

Can anyone tell me what possibly happened? And what is a fair estimate for a repair on something like this? Thanks again.
Too fast to be shifting into 4wd! IIRC, you should be going less than 40...and even that speed I'd seriously reconsider...I usually make sure I'm rolling less than 20 - IIRC (2) - the manual states no faster than 50 mph in 4wd High (top speed)

Sounds like you may have ground something down...but, I'm not sure...better take that in or to a person that is knowlegdable and can SEE/HEAR the prob to diagnose it.
