Spare tire Carrier for 3rd gen?
Hello All, i have been looking and reading all the threads i can find without any good results... i am looking for a spare tire swing gate for a 3d gen. I see there's factory ones for the 2nd gens... but nothing for the 3rds witout going completely custom. Im guessing the one for the 2nd gen would not fit the 3rd.... ??? I had a nissan pathfinder and I got a tire carrier from Valley industries.. it tide right into the frame rails through the bumper... super easy and convient... i really like the look and function of the tire gate... id really like to get the spare out from under the rig and on the back.... any one know of anyone who makes a not so custom set up? let me know....

You got two options:
1. import a spare tire carrier from Japan from a 3rd gen Hilux Surf (it's an option).
2. fabricate one. You might like to communicate with Andy (Bamachem) or Steve (Schaefer) of Sonoran Steel regarding this.
The JDM tire carrier is a bit noisy. It rattles on bumps, especially if you got heavy tires. So you'll need to install an additional bracket that's similar to that of an LC100. But it's going to be bit tricky installing it (might need internal supports to absorb the horizontal push of the tire) because of the 4Runner's rear power window.

I almost posted this last night but did not know all of the information. Didn't schaefer NOT recommend fabricating a spare tire carrier after one of his fell off due to a weakness somewhere in the pivot point?

i know it's not stock or attached to the bumper, but i really have enjoyed the spare carrier that Steve of CBI Offroad made for me. it doesn't move around at ALL even while off-roading.
