Should I remove the spring clamps on my chevys?

I swapped in 63" chevys on my 87 runner and I want to know if it will be benificial if I remove the clamps that hold the leaves together? Will the springs flex any better and are there any drawbacks to doing this? I know this has been discussed before but I tried a search and I could not find the info I was looking for.
