San Diego wheeling trip overdue!

Hey Guys it has been way to long since our last Sunday trip. It is too hot for a desert run, but I recently went on a challenging trail near Barrett Lake near Alpine.
It is shorter, but more technical than some of our other rides, but everyone I have wheeled with in the past--Rob, Scott, Lance, etc. would be able to make it.
Lets pick a Sunday this month, or I also have Fridays off and flex.

Damn this topic slipped off the first page fast!

I'm down to go, Sun is still good for me.
Oh yeah, Marc, just cause you have sliders now doesn't mean WE can make it over rocks!!

J/K..... hopefully the same crew and more will make it.

Rob,
You should have Steve make sliders for your ride. I took my truck on this trail soon after my sliders were on hoping to test them, but never hit them. I was kinda bummed.

If you come out to Santee there is a place called the Bug Machine on Mission Gorge--slightly used tow straps for $10.00!! I bought 2.

Marc- how long of a trail is it? Where does it start? I'm kinda familiar with Alpine area. Where's Scott? He lives up there too. Keep the thread alive!

The trail is not too long, but pretty technical. It Starts off Japatul Rd and ends near some houses on the other side of the hill.

There is a very cool granite slab at the top. Steve drove up it, but I was too freaked.

I will find out exactly how to get there, and maybe run it on Friday.

Hey Marc!

Good news and bad news...

The good news is I have the 15th off (the only sunday)... class cancelled.
The bad news is that it's father's day weekend...

So, if you guys do something on the 15th, just let me know

Lance

I heard there were some trails in Pine Valley also, basically right off the fwy. Anybody know anything about these?
I still like the Oriflamme trail also. Maybe we'll do a assortment of shorter trails?

Marc P - If it is the trail of Japutel that I am thinking of, it ends in some pretty nice ruts. I went up the back side for a couple of miles with my Jeep GC 4wd where the ruts are, but I had to turn back because of time.
My stock Jeep made it through the ruts/revine but my friends 4runner had to make a good run at it to make through and he barely made it through.
Great trail. Post where and when and I will try to make it out with my GC. My truck couldn't handle a trail like that right now.

I have a couple of pics that I will try to scan in and will post if I have time tonight.

Cheers.

The trail does have some mean ruts, but I made it through without touching. My buddy did spot me on a few tricky spots.

I am thinking we should do it on Sunday the 22nd. Next Sunday is Fathers day, so it wont work--sorry Lance

The trail is not too long--maybe 5 or 6 miles at most, but it is slow due to terrain. Steve and I made it through in about 2 hours I think.

The trail at Pine Valley rd takes you on a road to Lake Morena- very long from what I have heard and too many bikes.

If you have other ideas let me know. Where's Scott and his lift??

Tacoma Dude, the trail I am talking about is not 2wd friendly--but we do have other options that may be.

Where are the rest of you guys??

So is the 22nd ok? Who is gonna go? We can take the trail I am talking about or try another one.

Does anyone here in SD have Fridays off and want to go wheeling?

I think I can make it.
Scott might be training for his new job, he mentioned it a little while ago.
Lance is out because of classes.

Nerfherder: I have stock supension (4WD) and it is fine. Actually, Lance has less clearance than me and he does great.

Marc: I could get off a little early on Fridays, with a little notice to ok it. Where do you have in mind? Somewhere kinda close? Brandon can usually get off too with some notice.

NerfHerder-97SR5-:

I wouldn't worry too much about carnage. Marc is pretty good about only taking trails that are friendly for stock or virtually stock people. And he keeps making good decisions on trail selection so it doesn't get boring

I'd say u might scrape a few skids a few times but that's about it. SO long as you drive carefully, you should have no problems hanging with them. They're all a bunch of cool guys to have fun with!!!

I'd go but u know it's sundays Nothing opened until Sept.... o well... I'm thinking about the bear run that Fear is offering but I dunno, it might be too difficult for me. Hopefully By the end of the yr my 4runner will be lifted... (crossing fingers like mad!)

Have fun guys! take some pix for me!!! and make sure rob has some straps this time! lol

Lance
