I don't think anyone has a "problem" with you per se, but I bet we all have a friend who tells the same sasquatch stories.

Now 2003+ 4Runners is a different story. My wife's 07 2WD gets 25 mpg but her daily routine consists of a 12 mile round trip on the highway with no stops.

I agree... there should be no clarification of years covered required as this is the 3rd Gen forum. It cracks me up these guys who do some fuzzy math incorrectly calculating that a 3.4 liters has gotten over 25mpg. (I believe even 22MPG is stretch to be honest.) The ones that really crack me up are those who say they've towed a boat through the mountains at over 20MPG. Gawd bless the internets for those kind of "facts".

28 mpg does seem abnormal, however I think it is possible. My 3.0 4x4 95 Truck averages about 13 -15 mpg city or 16 -19 mpg highway. There has been cases where I have gotten 20 mpg a few times and even 22mpg once. With all factors at play in the right direction I think its possible to get 28 mpg. As for the kilometers vs miles thought, its possible there is some mistake there but everywhere I've seen in Canada they only use metric so that is unlikely its a conversion thing.

For instance: When I gas up I see how many kms are on the trip meter, then record it right on my recipt. The receipt also has how many liters I bought. I then divide distance travelled (say 195 km) by the liters I purchased (say 33.293L). That gives me 5.857~ km/L. to get my MPG reading I just use
This site and it works. (gives me 13.77MPG)

Which way did you calculate your fuel efficiency? What size tires are you running compared to stock? my truck is on 31x10.5 which is slightly larger that the oringinal tires(which I forget), so I think I actually get around 4% more mpg or something.

22 mpg is not a stretch...I do it all the time. 22.5 is the most often result in
summer on the highway... 1 full tank, average

From 20 to 28 is a 40% increase. I will have to find my window sticker but off the top of my head the EPA rating for my 97 3.4L 4x4 5-speed was 16 city/19 highway. I can't really see how from a mechanical standpoint one vehicle could be 40% more efficient than the best average of all others of the same.
