I thought it was just us idiots holding on to our measurement system and everybody else was using SI.

NO turbonator, tornado B.S. is used. Just normal everyday granny driving does it all. I gotta quit this high mileage thing, its killing my foot, and I miss my air induction noise. I'd rather live with 20-22 MPG with city driving, and some heavyfoot driving.
I never use A/C also; gives me the worst headaches ever. I think something crawled into the A/C and died in there

I get about 19-20mpg, I drive is the worst traffic possible. The bay area in california stop and go stop and go all the way to work, on the times that it is smooth sailing I set the crusie at 70 all the way to work. I end up getting about 270-280 on a tank of gas when the needle is at the bottom of the end line. That is about 14.* gallons of gas

believe?
As much as I would like to believe it, I find it more than a little suspicious. I get only 16-19 on my 3.0 4wd auto with 31x10.5's . But I also have a 2.7 auto Legend that gets 24 ave. I have a hard time believing that a heavier vehicle with a bigger engine and bigger wheel/tire combo (rotational mass) and greater drag coefficient can go farther on a gallon of gas than my car. Do the calc again with a few more tanks of gas.
On the other hand, if you really are getting 28mpg, share the secrets. Staying below 2300rpm is not enough to get that much more mileage. Save us all some money.

I am so unlucky, I get 14-15MPG with 230 miles on the clock @ 15.5 gallons down. UGH

Do any of you track your fuel economy on www.fueleconomy.gov, there's a login spot where you can keep track on line. I need to update my 4Runner and see what kind of economy I'm getting.

Some are a little lighter, and some are a lighter heavier, based on drivetrain, and options.
The heaviest being fully loaded 4x4 Limiteds.
The lightest being 2wd, 4 cylinder, base 4Runners.

Typical mileage for me is 21 highway with a roofrack. I had a tailwind while returning on one trip with boats ontop and that gave me 25mpg. I think 28 mpg is about as possible as having sex only once a year as a twenty something guy can do. Sure, it can e done, but why would we want to be that ginger on the gas.

I've a 2001 Civic that gets 39mpg pretty much anywhere, day after day... I don't check it often because who cares if you can drive around all week for $20...
and I get better traction than a 2wd pickup, I got it up a hill that a 2wd jeep grand cherokee couldn't make... haha.. F'n jeeps...

I'm routinly at 21 MPG on my 3.4 w/K&N air filter. ...And that's with not changing the plugs for 60,000 miles. I just changed them with the water pump, timing belt & cam/crank seals - hope it doesn't screw up my MPG.

I have 200,000 miles on my 2002 4Runner sport edition with Cooper Discoverys (gotta love that tire rumble) with no running boards and a crappy Manik brushgaurd and I've repeatedly gotten 26mpg running on premium gas.

Why are al these non-charged guys throwing money down the tank using premium? Just send me the extra dime you pay per gallon and I'll make better use of that cash and you won't be wasting it.

I routinely get 19-21 mpg.
Long highway trips get better. One trip this year I was pulling a trailer (w/ my motorcycle on it about 700 lbs) about 700 miles rt, and I got 22 mpg.
This year I drove it on a long highway trip, and somehow it showed I got 28mpg too.
I thought I did the math wrong, but maybe not??

I'm sorry...there is no way any V6 4runner is getting 28...maybe very low 20's but not 28. I personally have never got over 20. I used to get around 17-19, but now with the lift and bigger tires, I am getting 14-15. God, I can't wait to get new gears!

I believe it. I've personally gotten around 28 mpg on a long trip from BC to Alberta. This is 28 Imperial miles per gallon, meaning the gallon is 4.4 liters compared to a US gallon of 3.8 liters. 28 mpg imperial is 23.3 mpg US.
Also this was with stock light weight dunlop tires. My load range D BFG's bring down the mileage quite a bit.
