rear diff breather hose question

ok, so i call both toy dealers in town and they don't have the union fitting or filter thingamabob in stock and it will be next week by the time they get them shipped in. so i break down and call the nissan dealer and they happen to have the diff vent in stock ($4.63).

so the question is, because the nissan part is smaller than the toy union fitting (it looks smaller anyway and a 1/4"hose doesn't come anywhere close to fitting) is there going to be a prob getting air from (or to??) the diff? and can i use any hose or should it be rated to handle hot diff oil, or oil in general????

Thanks all!

Coop

Did you look in our Tech section to see what Jackson used for hose?

I'm not sure if the Nissan part will fit or not on that size of hose, as I used the Toy breather part.
But I did not use the Toy filter for the end of the hose, I used a Fram.
Write-up is on my homepage under the Mods section somewhere.
I just checked my line, and it's made by Gates, and sized at 3/8".
It is labled fuel/PCV line.

Well blow me down. I had the info in the first pic for the line I used. I have not been on page II of my mods in awhile

Thanks corey, actually i did check on all of the sites i could find that had write ups, and it seems toy parts were the preference. I'm horney to do this mod this weekend so i can't wait for the parts to be ordered in.

I think that 3/8"might fit, but i want the seal to be as tight as possible, with no gaps and therefore no leakage. i'm think i'm going for it anyway...

i like what you did with the fram filter, how's the saying go, imitation is the best form of flattery?

Check with Roger Brown (4Crawler)
http://4crawler.cruiserpages.com/4Runner.shtml

The guy is a wiz and has a ton of write-ups on his page.
I beleive he uses a part you can get at any good hardware store instead of the Toy or Nissan part.
I can't find the info, but I'm sure he's got it there, or you can email him for the correct fitting to buy.

I just saw on his page he's got the same shower I want to install later.
His site really is a goldmine for info. Even an underhood welder.
Corey
PS, after doing some digging, it came up.
