rear Brakes?

About 2 months ago i had all new rear axle seals/ bearings/ rear brake shoes done at stone mountain toyota. They did a good job but then the brakes started to shutter and it took me taking it back there 5 times to fix it!! The last time being about a week ago! It drove great for a few days then all a sudden bam felt like the rear brakes were on when i didnt have the e brake on or the brakes, everythings brand new down there what can possibly be wrong now rear wheel cylinders. This is what i asked when i took it back in and then they told me they just tighten the brakes to tight and loosened them but a day later they feel like the brakes are on again So the wheel Cylinder must be bad in one side or both
Any help would be appreicated

I had my shoes replaced also when i did my axle seals and mine were fine for a day then they seemed like it was binding and I smelled the brake pads burning a little and it turned out that they were pads for a '99 Pathfinder and the Checker parts got the number off by one and my mechanic didn't notice the diff since they fit fine and they were only a few millimeters too thick.

While this probably isn't your problem it's worth a look into.

I am not sure I understand what you are asking or telling us. You say "the brakes started to shutter" - the front or the rear? Was the shaking in the steering wheel? Then you say you took the vehicle back 5 times to fix it. Well, what did they "fix" each of the 5 times you took it back? Did they simply make an adjustment?

If the problem still exists, and it wasn't there prior to the work being done on the vehicle, you need to keep pushing the dealer on this. Hopefully you have all the documentation and can schedule a meeting with the service manager. That's what I would do.

ok it is the rear brakes they did shutter they turned the drums and it didnt shutter anymore, now right after they fixed that it felt like i was riding my rear brakes like with the e brake on. I took it back in they said by accident they tightened them to much, but a day later <today> they did it again i took it back and they said everytime i pull the ebrake it tightens the brakes and thats what tightened them because when i park i pull the ebrake everytime but they told me not to do that
so thats the problem and i was wondering if it all sounded right

Wait, so they told you not to pull the e-brake?

Are they kidding? That is the biggest load of bull I have ever heard. Start taking it up the chain of command. Seriously.

I agree with Christian, pulling the e-brake should be done on a regular basis. It only tightens the rear shoes if they need it. I don't think it is even possible for the e-brake to *overtighten* the shoes.

The point is that they should tell you what's wrong. They've worked on it 5 times! Diagnosing problems caused by someone else like this over the net is way too difficult. With proper documentation, a little courtesy, and some confidence you should be able to get this taken care of by the dealer. Start with the service manager and go from there.

Dress professionally and go in and present your entire case (well-documented) to the service manager prior to giving them your vehicle. Be professional about everything and tell them EXACTLY what you want; the vehicle to be returned to its previous condition, prior to them working on it (i.e. a working rear brake system). Get what they agree to do for you in writing. Do not accept the free oil changes that the service manager will try to offer you as a substitute for fixing the problem.

took it back the head mechanic took a test drive with me told me there was nothing wrong but said hed put it up in the air to make me feel better once he did that he went to go spin the wheel and it didnt move then he felt like a retart so then he took the wheels off and took the burning up drums off and burnt his hands and loosened the brakes and said he tightened them to much by accident and then told me to go drive it and to see what happens, its fine now and he couldnt give me an explanation y this happened so i would like to know how rear drum brakes tighten by themselves because i know he didnt tighten them to much because i was there when he did it and they were fine. he said they can tighten themselves backing out of steep driveway and thats about it so if anyone knows a different way please let me know!!!

They adjust on there own everytime you back up and apply the brake.Thats why they call them self adjusting rear drum brakes. The parking brake dose not adjust anything when you use it.They have been making them like this since the late fifties.

The above statement is un-true. The third gen rear brakes self adjust upon application of the E-brake.
