Rear axle problem

Hey everybody, I have a 95 4runner. a few days ago, I noticed that it had leaked something. Don't know what it leaked but I'm pretty sure that it came from the rear axle. I tried driving it but when I did, I heard a loud wheezing noise every time I gassed it. I'm sure its not the engine b/c when the truck idles I don't hear the noise. Can anybody help?? just want to know what it could be before I take it into a shop. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

Check your gear oil in the axle. If its low you could possibly pull the wheel and rear drums off and see if its leaking from the axle. If it is you possibly got an axle seal bad.

if its leaking from the center area of the differential and not out by the wheels, it is probably a bad pinion seal or a bad gasket on the third member....

a common cause for this leak is a plugged breather .... i offroad, so i decided to extend my breather per the writeup on www.4crawler.com
