Question about Transmission and T-Case...

after seeing some posts earlier today with a link to a site that calculates MPH, RPMs, and various other important numbers based on your trans, t-case, tire size, etc., i was wondering if someone could tell me the model number for the trans and t-case for my 98 4runner 5-speed with the 3.4...and also, if ya'll would like, let me know what brand and type of gear oil ya'll are running in your transmission and t-case...and thank you in advance to all who contribute...

Come on guys, I know someone on here knows this...only reason I'm asking is because I don't have a FSM or any kind of manual (on my Christmas wish list). So will anyone help me out???

The transmission is R150F. The transfer case is a VF20A, maybe..

I use Red Line 75W90 oil in my transfer case. You can use Red Line MT-90 oil for your manual tranny. Mine's an AT and I use Red Line High temp ATF Dexron III

The search bottom also comes to mind--but none the less--Lucas for break in and then Ams Oil 75w

Marlin says mineral based for break in and then the switch to synthetic (trannies)--with my new lockers i will probably go with Cheap for break in and then change to AMS. Really, when you change the oil after break in you will see alot of metal in there.

agree with hross. use petroleum oil 10W30 for new vehicles up to 2000 miles to allow for proper piston ring seating. after that, you can use synthetic oil.
