1. Worst 15 mpg
2. Best 21 mpg HWY, 18 city*
3. Average 17 mpg (100% A/C in Miami)
4. Engine 5VZ (3.4), auto
*qualifier - anyone seen those new shell commercials about one tank giving you better mileage? I haven't used shell gas in YEARS because it is usually the most expensive brand down here in Miami, but I swear to you that stuff works. I just bought a tank of the stuff, and right now, I'm getting about 20mpg city on it. That's about as good as my usual best mileage HWY. (No, I don't work for Shell! )

1988 4Runner SR5 22-REC 5 Speed Manual
1)Worst 15 mpg in 4x4
2)Best 20 mpg on highway
3) Average between half city half highway about 18 mpg
1990 4Runner 3.0 V6 3v(ery)z(onked)e(ngine) automatic
1) Worst sux!
2) Best sux!
3) Avg also sux!
Right now, I am getting about 13 mpg average between gentle highway and city driving. I am trying to figure out what the problem is, if any. With my 88 4Runner I used to get 20 and complained... If I could get 20 mpg out of this 1990 pig I would be ecstatic. You don't know what you have until you have lost it..aaaaahhhhhh... Judging by these posts, I cannot expect great gas mileage, but I gotta be able to get better than 13 mpg!!!
Power is not an issue, the truck has plenty of power. It may sound strange to you, but I would trade some of the power for better mileage. It takes off fast and cruises nicely, but drinks gas faster than a college art major drinks beer.
More groans and moans sure to follow..

My best was right when I bought my 1997 4runner just a couple of months ago at 21 mpg, and the worst has been in the low 15 mpg now with 285's and TRD Thermostat. I'm hoping to get it back up around at least 18-20 with the famous fuel atomizer.

gas mileage
This is for a 1984 22R 5 speed with 108, xxx miles on it
Best 27 mpg Weird cuz I was towing a small utility trailer in the Colorado Mountians
Worst 12mpg Lots of forest road driving while hunting
Average 20mpg this is driving 12 miles on the highway to work and then city driving home everyday
I drive slow cuz I dont have much of a choice. I work all 95 horses.
