Piece above running board missing...what is it??
I'll do my best to explain: have 98' 4Runner Limited with running boards (factory I am pretty sure). On the drivers side just above the running board but below the door there is a strip to hide the gap between the bottom of door and board (it is body color) well in the front of this strip right after the wheel arch there is a small square piece missing. It looks like the strip is not torn just that there may have been a factory "access" piece there (for what I have no idea)
This was my wifes truck and now I am driving it but she owned it since new and she did not even know something went in there so thus this conclusion; she has no idea what or where it would be.

post a pic of what you are talking about and that would help us identify your problem.
but it sounds like you are talking about the gap strip that runs along the lenght of both doors. if so, try contacting any of the parts vendors in our vendor section for a replacement.

Ok, here is the pic , I have circled it.

I thought there was a seperate piece that goes into that opening but upon closer examination it looks like the strip itself is pushed back towards the rear wheel. I tried to slide it forward but it would not budge (and I did'nt want to break it). Do I have to drop down the running board to reposition it? Or do I unbolt the whole board assembly? Thanks!

It looks like it is a part of the running board. remove them and that gap spacer will slider right back to normal. But if I were you I would just remove the running boards, free lift!! Do you actually use them?

Thanks, thats what I figured.
Uggh , I would LOVE to lose the running boards but when I mentioned it to wifey she was unsure how she would get up into the truck and look cute in heels & skirt at the same time........of course i offered a lift but that did not go over too well.

Ok, in case anyone else has this problem, somehow that gap spacer slid back (it also did it a little on the pass. side). I had to unbolt the two most rear bars that connect running boards to the underbody (I left the first one toward the engine bay on) upon doing this the board drops enough to push from the back on that gap spacer until it slides back to where it is supposed to be.
The bars are connected via nut\bolt and they are 13mm.
Don't know why or how it happened but it looks much better now.
