Seriously though, don't have him redo it himself. Either have an actually skilled welder at that shop (if there is one) do it with your supervision, or get the money back and go elsewhere. They truly do not deserve your employment. That's all they are, employees, who do a shoddy job. Treat them as such.

i would offer to split the cost to get this done right unless he wants bad word of mouth and if he does just cut your loose and walk away..

maybe he didnt know what this job entails as he isnt a rock crawler..

but dont put a highlift on something welded to your body mounts please!
this is what I was thinking while reading this thread. Yeah the welds don't look pretty, but did you explain exactly what the sliders are for and how they were going to be used and where he was to weld it? If not, you partly have yourself to blame. Hate to say it, but it's true - it doesn't sound like the guy you hired is offroad savvy, so he at least gets a pass UNLESS there were specific instructions that he did not follow

those aren't welds, they look like weld putty. It does not even look like the metal was penetrated properly. It may be sturdy but it doesn't look pretty or safe.

I went to speak to him earlier this week and he agreed to cut them off and weld them to the frame. So I'll take pics when he is done. Thanks for all the input guys.. It really helped when I was discussing the matter with him, and he kept on trying to convince me that it was stronger the way he put them on.

as "simple " as it seems to complain on the internet .. life is just not that simple ...

time is time .. and you wont get your money back .. (sorry to say)

they guy that did it is probabaly thinks he did a top knoch job and will in no way sucome to "internet" pressure ... chalk it up to "lessen learned" and fix it PROPERLY yourself.!!!!

A Craigslist.com welder could save you 15% or more next time.

Talking

How can you pick up anything !!!

That you have outsourced and not look at the job before the invoice is signed or paid in your case. Unless you have a longstanding relationship with said vendor

When you paid the bill you were signing off that job as complete and to your liking.

Did the vendor do poor work . In my eyes yes.

Get your money back! I've seen welding students do a better job. You should not have paid for that work, and the price you paid is astronomical in comparison to the quality. I'd be getting a refund. I would cry if someone did a hack job on my 4Runner like that. They usually say, you get what you pay for, in this case you definitely didn't. Even if that work is free (i.e. you get your money back) it's still a rip-off!

you don't need to go crazy on this guy.

simply tell this moron nicely he must have missunderstood. what you wanted.

it needs to be fixed right away because that is not safe and will do a lot of damage

if you have to take him to small claims cort to get do it !

and then black ball his shop so he doesn't get any more busness

maby you should hire some migrant worker to stand out in front of his shop with a sign say n somthing like he does half a$#ed work fot top dollar prices

Wow, Thats um nice. I saw you are in the EPT, where did you go for that. I have seen very few good fab shops here and they all go down because no one wants to pay for good work. that is why I do all my own work. if you want i can make a call or 2 so it can be done right. And yes you got jiiped---you cant tax labor in texas
