I know how to search forums, and couldn't come up with anything for gadget's fuel mods etc.... can someone post a link to the thread? My 3.0 4Runner is pinging even on premium and normal timing. It isn't pinging bad, but even a little isn't good. Pre-ignition is not a good thing.... My Audi's 2.8 V6 12valve model NEVER pings. That thing will pull pretty hard in 5th gear even from down low. Actually pretty nice motor. Can't say much for Audi's electrical system though.

I'm going to go buy some NGK's today. One heat range colder. Really though I think there is something else going wrong. I've run Seafoam through the intake twice, didn't seem to help. Set timing to stock 10 degrees. Still get slight pinging.... I need to get a book on it and go through the adjustments for the fuel injection system. Never really done that, so this will be new. It starts hard and it seems to help to give it a little gas, which normally you don't have to do with an EFI car. Initial throttle opening?

Dave, perhaps check your fuel filter. If it is running lean and the pump is having to work extra that could make it ping. Run some seafoam through the tank too.

dave,

go to gadgetonline.com. poke around, easy to find there. but it will probably not apply to you since those fuel mods are related to the 3.4L engine w/ an SC

Thanks for the suggestions. The fuel filter is shiny and he had receipts for a tuneup that included the filter in 04 (not that many miles ago though...) Had a cap and rotor too. I'm going to try the plugs first then start digging further. I ordered an Alpine head unit and some speakers, then I can just turn up the radio and ignore the pinging.... Ignorance is bliss right?

You are still gonna run the high octane with the fuel mods. Pinging = bad, I would try to avoid the pinging as much as possible with different driving habits. I'd also keep up with the octane booster until you get the fuel mods.
