Thanks to all that helped put the A/F sensor in last night and no more surging!!! now hopefully I can take this other sensor back to get my $$$ back.....

Hi,

it is important to get an exact OEM sensor with the exact plug type.

period.


I previously wrote you can get away with something different, but what can happen is short term trim will
work to keep everything in spec, and as long term trim is recalculated, LT will eventually complain that it is
sick of seeing all the out of spec signals.

so you can reset the ecu and drive for a tank or two and everything fine, but then you will get another
code likely p0171, p1130 and p1133 which is signal out of range


stick with dealer parts.

just changed my front o2 sensor in my 99 limited went to toyota shed with the code it was the 125 code had the vin no. for the right o2 front sensor with all the wireing harnes 200 skins but fits right runs alot better better gas mileage and if ya change one, make shure they give ya new nuts and washers cleared the codes all is good 53k on her now

Hey there. New to this, but it looks like a great forum. My 2000 4Runner popped up a CEL right about 45k miles. Is that an automated thing? Don't seem to have any issues with how the engine is running, so I'd love to reset it if that's possible. Fuel mileage MAY have declined about the same time, but can't honestly remember. Bought this baby 14 mos ago on Ebay with only 35k mi. It was owned by a guy who lived in Manhattan and kept it in a parking garage. Almost like a time capsule, except for the dog hair.

Well, first off, if you have a code P0420, you need a new cat, not a sensor. And your sensor isnt an O2 sensor, its an air fuel ratio sensor (AFR) as its a callie. Will not interchange. I suspect your original sensor was good. The cats on these are part of the manifolds I think? Or header pipe anyway. Spendy, and now you need a new AFR sensor.

Thanks! So you're saying I can't replace it? My mechanic said "drop it off for the day", but didn't say anything about the AFR sensor. The way he was talking, it was going to be easy for him to fix, so I assumed it was an engineered CEL that just needs reset.

My CEL came on and I went to Advanced Auto to get the code pulled. They told me the O2 sensor was bad so I bought the plug-n-play Bosch for around $125. I got home and checked on yotatech to see how much of a pita it would be to replace and learned that the Bosch sensors were NFG. So I never installed it. I found the Denso model locally for $103. Luckily, I got my money back for the Bosch. Here is a photo of the three sensors. As you can see, the Bosch is a different design and is probably a generic O2.
