new here, just got my 4Runner

Just got my 4Runner 5 days ago, been checking out the site for about a week now. I've learned a ton reading you guys posts so far. Anyway, here's my story:

Last saturday I traded my Acura Integra for this 4Runner. I think I got the better end of the deal, IMHO. Its a 95' V6 auto, white w/ gray interior, 160k miles. It's already had the timing belt and head gasket replaced at 120k. It took me and my GF about 4 hours of vacuuming, simple green'ing, rubbing compounding and waxing to get it to look good. Like it should be on a dealer lot. Only has one dent on the tailgate and a ding on the front 1/4 panel.
Feels like it has less power than my 4.0 Wrangler, but i'm still satisfied with it. Rides like a dream and damn is it comfy...

Look out for me, I'm sure I'll be around...

Welcome to the world of Toyota ownership!!! It sounds like you have the 3.sl0w V6. I had a '90 and despite it being a dog (but a good dog, at that), it towed a bassboat and a 3,000lb camper. If it was maintained well, you'll get another 160k. I sold mine at 205,000 and my buddy now has about 280,000 on it.

Welcome again and good luck!

thanks guys. And slow is not the word, uhhh...

So far I have my eye on a coil spacer for the rear to fix the sagging, new tires and possibly rims, some lights (clear corners and bumpers, and some brighter headlights) , and some of the DIY mods I've read about.

Perhaps someone can chime in before you buy spacers. I think there was a recall or something regarding sagging rear springs, but I don't recall what specific year(s) it applied to.

I think the only spring recall was for the 96-98's

Recall wasnt for 2nd gens...

I would get new springs though before adding spacers...a lot of 2nd gen'ers run Downey coil springs in the rear. New springs will help the ride out much more than spacers.

Sagging butts are a classic trait of the earlier coil sprung rear ends. My advice would be to replace the worn out springs with new ones. There's a few ways to go depending on your budget. I am very happy with the set I got from Northwest Offroad. Most people go with Downey but I found their customer service was lacking. (that's just me) When I bought the springs I also ordered new 26mm torsion bars and front & rear poly swaybar bushings as well as new shocks and a stabilizer. The package of springs and torsion bars gave me an inch and a half of lift. Helped me to totally clear my 32x11.5 AT's. In fact I could probably fit 33x12.5's on now, but I'll wait until I re-gear. Welcome to the club and may God help you. .....trust me, you'll need it! Mod fever is a wicked sickness.

OK, so it sounds like new springs are the way to go then. I'm prob not going to mod it too much, it'll be my daily driver. The wrangler will be the one to be lifted and big tire'd. I say that now, but you know how it goes...

well, what the deal is, is that I got a wrangler for a good deal three weeks ago, and then I got a good deal on this a week ago. So, as of yet, neither have anything done to them. I have to prioritize what i want to do. Not saying that I wont start tearing into it, just no plans as of yet...

I would've waited for an E locker equipped one but now that I've added a few personal touches I'm liking it better. I have my gloss black painted Bushwacker flares (on a dark red body) half on and I'm glad I went painted, they're gonna look sweet.
I think I'll enjoy this truck for a couple more years and then think about '99+ Limited model or a Sport Edition.

Ah So! Ya the lack of an E-Locker wouldn't necessarilly be a show stopper for me either but it's one less mod to do down the road. So when do we get to see the pics with the new flares?
