May try locating that relay under the dash by the stearing colum or under the hood somewhere and disconnecting it maybe that will help.

Yeah, that's what I would do. Odds are your relay is still hot and its not letting it start...find it, disconnect it and then try that. If that doesn't work sounds like a good opportunity to get yourself an Optima.

Are you planning on keeping your alarm installed? If not just cut the wires going to the relay and then try it...if that doesn't work then its your battery. Taking the battery out would probably be your best bet as that would only take about 10 minutes and a 10mm socket...if you cut the wires to your relay you'll have a bunch of open wires hanging around your engine bay. If it was me I'd either just replace the battery in the '96 (depending on age) and then go from there.
If the battery nor the relay solve it then I think you may just have to get another remote and do it that way. Sounds like you might be better off tracing the problem you're having as of now, take it somewhere and get the entire alarm removed from the vehicle and then if you so chose, find another newer alarm that has a kill switch or fuse that is easily removed if you need to do so in the future. That is just what I would recommend...sounds like this thing is taking control of your rig completely.
If you need alarm suggestions, DEI and Code Alarm are both really good brands, I had a Code Alarm on my 2nd gen and I loved it, very reliable and never failed me.
Let me know how it all turns out.
