need help!!!!!

Well 2 days ago my truck spudered a little. no biggy. Well the next day it spudered about every 20 sec the hole way to work. Today it was even worse. My check engine light actually came on on my way home. I was thinking maby bad gas but would that make my check engine light come on. I have almost ran out my tank of gas so I will try some new gas and fuel ingetor cleaner tomorrow. It is running like it has a cycliner not fireing.

Any guesses?

Need new plugs? Clean the throttle body? Replace the fuel filter?

I would also guess plugs or a bad wire. Pull off each wire one at a time and see if you are getting spark.

What other engine mods have you done? I had a similar experience with my Maxima when I over oiled my K&N filter one time.

Changed my plugs today. Big improvement but still missing as soon as you take off. The diagnostic said miss fire in cylined 2. I am going to buy some new wires tomorrow. Dont you guy think that is the best thing to try next?

Ya, if you replaced the plugs, then I would try wires next. If not the wires, maybe try your distributor cap and rotor after that. Good luck...

I thought it was the gas at first. I had just got some gas when it started missing. I drove it down to almost empy and filled up with 93 and put some gas treatment stuff in it. It got worse.

I picked up some wires today from the toyota dealership. I will not have a chance to put them on till friday though. Do you think driving 20 more miles to work and back will mess up my new plugs. I hope not because I have already drove 40 miles. I keeps missing more and the longer you drive.

that's because the gas treatment has to run it's course to get the water out of the tank and lines. personally I probably would have given it until the end of the tank of treated gas before I bought anymore stuff. but that's me.

Well this sucks.

I bought new spark plug wires and put them on. Still missing. So I gave up and took it to the stealership. The told me I had a bad mass air sensor. $270 dollars later my truck still runs like ˟˟˟˟. I have to take it back on monday. I am going to try to put a fuel filter on sunday. Do you still think there is a chance it is water. I have ran though 1/2 of a new tank and problem just as bad.

Need help!

Did the stealership tell you what the code was on the CEL? Might help to limit the possibilities....

When I had the plugs replaced the code said that there was a miss fire in cylender 2. After getting the mass air sensor replaced today it ran worse than before. My check engine is back on and I have appointment for monday morning at the stealership. I picked up a fuel filter tonight and I am going to try that in the morning.

Witch is cylender 2 ?

I Know!

I just wnet through almost the exact same thing with my 92 4Runner, it turned out to be the ignition module but the mechanic said there was a chance the ignition coil was damaged too. I/m not sure about your engine type but try taking the wire that goes into the center of the cap off on the cap end and putting it near a good metal engine componet while a buddy crankes her over. If you dont have a bluish spark about an inch lone the failure is int in the plugs, wires, rotor or cap but the coil or module. Also, take out some plugs and crank over the enginr, there should be a lot of gas vapor coming out, if you smell plenty of gas it probably isn't a fuel prob. Let me know how it turns out.

I believe cylinder 2 is the one closest to you on your right when looking at the engine from above the radiator.

Whoops

I honestly had no idea but you could probably do the same test somehow.

Well I just replaced the fuel filter. It is no better. Still missing realy bad. I am wondering if a coil pack is bad or the sleve under the coil pack that connects the spark plug is bad. Any guesses?

That was my first thought after reading this post. The coil pack sounds like a likely culprit to me. Personally, I would rip the dealership a new one for replacing your mass air when that wasn't the problem. I don't understand how a miss in cylinder #2 could be diagnosed as a bad mass air. That was cause a miss in all the cylinders. Morons.

Good Luck

I agree, check ignitor/coil pack. Indeed, demand dealer give you your old mas back and take theirs off.
