Just as fyi, silver interior trim and Sport badging were available only in '02.

Since you have '01, your 4Runner is SR5 Sport Edition, which is virtually identical to '02, except the silver trim inside and a badge on the door.

And no, no 4Runners came with a supercharger from a factory. Superchargers, as well as other accessories, could have been installed by the dealer or the previous owner.

Thumbs down

Now I'm confused, at first I was confident in the differences except for the badging. I have an '01 SR5 Sport Edition (the Highlander one) in Jade Imperial Mica. And from what you guys are saying, since I have an '01 I don't have the badges or the silver interior...but I DO have the silver interior. And my seats are alright, but I dont' necessarily think that they're "sport seats". I have a sister with a 2000 SR5, and her seats are crap. So mine are better than her's but I don't they're "sport seats". I also have a twin brother with a 2000 Limited 4WD, and our seats are comparable, except of course that they're leather.

So, what the hell?! Don't I have a Sport? What's the difference between '01 and '02, and while you're at it...what's the difference between Sport Edition and Highlander? I had such faith in my 4Runner ownership knowledge, and now you guys confused the heck out of me!

If you have the hood scoop, color keyed bumpers and grill....then you have a Sport. The name Highlander was only used on the '99s. Then Toyota came out with the Highlander vehicle so they changed the name to "Sport".

'99-'00 Highlander--->'01 Sport Package---->'02 Sport Edition and the only one officially badged as so.

I added the skid and TRD Sport stickers to help mildly set it apart in a OEM sort of way.
I sold my '97 for my '99 just for the scoop Ok,the locker and updated ergonomics in the '99 was the big plus.

IIRC, 99-up limiteds came w/ 4.30's.

I dont recall any coming with a lower (numerically) gear-ratio than that.
Now I'm going to add even more confusion. I thought that ALL automatic 3.4L V6 4Runners came with 4.10's stock. There were SOME that came with 4.30 as an option.

Mine has the 4.30's but I also have the e-locker. I think that may have been the determining factor..

I could be wrong but I was under the impression that the only difference in the "sport" seats was that they were clad in a fabric that was not available in other models. Is this right?

They're also 6 way adjustable which I'm not sure how many are on the regular seats. Do you have full movement of the headrests on the regular seats?

I have 6 way adjustable seats. And the fabric on mine are different from my sister's 2000 SR5. I have the silver trim inside, the hood scoop and the wheels too.

The silver trim is the real dead giveaway with the Sports since that's not even somehting you could swap over to a non-sport.

Pinstripes...yuck! What's the deal with those anyway? I guess I never noticed them on cars before, but now that I look they're on everything! I see them on 4Runners, Civics, Pathfinders, Rangers...just about everything. And those badges just make me think of trim-posers. I don't see the point.

It's my brother wanting to get '01 clear lense tail lights for his 2000. Or it's someone putting "sport" or "limited" badges on a base. And I know this is going to piss some people off, but putting TRD Off-Road decals on a 4Runner because we all know those just don't happen. Not that they aren't off-roaders, just that they don't have TRD packages like the Tacomas or Tundras do. And more recently, I saw someone put a hybrid badge on a Hummer as a joke, but it's still trim-posing.

Basically, anything to fool others to think their car is more than it is.

I agree when it's a Z28 badge on a v6 Camaro but the Highlander/Sports are the closest thing you will see to a TRD Runner and if equipped with the Tundra lift or a Bilstien lift plus the TRD skidplate and the scoop is actually a TRD associated part so it's close and a TRD sticker on an appropriate Runner isn't the same as sporting a Type R badge on a Civic EX.

A Type R or a Z28 can't be duplicated on a lesser model without major changes especially the Type R integra which is very different model structurally than even the Integra GSR.
A non-TRD Tacoma is still just a Tacoma but with better shocks, a sticker and maybe the faux skidplate so making a TRD Runner isn't a stretch.

So there and I like mine. Plus they were only $20 a pair and I couldn't resist.
