Question Lifting an 04 Double Cab Prerunner 2WD

Any ideas? Suggestions? Advice? Warnings??
I've got an 04 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab PreRunner. 3.4 V6. Thought about a 3" Body lift now, and a 3" suspension lift later...good idea? bad idea?? should I just go with a bigger suspension and then call it done? Or is the split lifting the way to go? Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated. I was looking at skyjacker lift kits, but I notice a lot of guys (and girls) running the fabtech setup. Any preference? Thanks Guys!

First of all, I'm going to assume that you want to "street queen" your truck since its 2wd.

The fabtech lift provides a lot of lift for little flex and not much more ground clearance because now you have those brackets hanging down. 3" body lift will really expose your frame rails and be a PITA to install compared to a 2" BL.

My vote's for the suspension lift though, but I'll wait to hear back from you before I go there.

Donno if your talking about the drop braket lifts like Fabtech, Tuff Country and Trailmaster. Or, are you talking about just coilovers?

With a 2wd, it would be pretty pointless to get a dropbraket lift because the main idea behind them is to lower the front differentiail to keep your CV angles at a stock location. However, you would have a 6" lift and have near factory ride.... Also, flex is stock, and actually better than a rig with jacked up coilovers.

My vote would be to jack up some coilovers to 3" or just use a spacer. If you want to go xtra large, then do a 2" body lift as well. Screw the 3" BL.

I want my truck lifted. And Lifted fairly big, but yeah its never going to see any serious off roading, cause I didnt go 4WD, she will occasionally see some off road, but of course nothing 2WD cant get me through, so yeah I suppose street queen would be the word usage there...So no big body lifts...got it. I think I want it about 6" higher than it is now, plus however much the bigger tires will raise it. looking at 35's....any and all advice is welcome here. Thanks guys!!!

I have now heard many opinions on this from many different sources. What I am hearing is go for the drop bracket lift kit, say from fabtech or something to retain a bit of stock ride, and go big, say 6" and forget the body lift for now, then if I ever wanted to go higher, I could also toss in a body lift.
As far as body lifts go, I have heard that I dont want to do a 3" cause its a PITA. But then I heard that a 2" BL will not be as thorough as a 3" BL, and its easy to cover up the extra exposed frame rails and stuff of the 3" BL with new wheel filler panels, and some sliders on the side. Yes? NO? Thanks Guys.

I would also stay away from 3" BL. IMO just too much hieght in the pucks. 2" is okay but would be the limit for me.

Like SC said maybe just the coil spacers. To my knowledge there is not a lot of prerunning type terrain in GA. So coil overs would be kind of a waste also unless you are into the bling look just for looks. Coil over do look cool but cost a lot!

35's might be a bit much for your rig unless you plan on regearing your differential. it'd be SLLLLooooowwwwww.

33's should run fine on my truck, yeah? no re-gearing needed? and that 4", thats not bad right? I mean its not going to look like some huge truck with little tires, is it?

Check out my pics for some comparison.

Im running 6" Trailmaster and a 2" body lift with 35s.

Just to let you know, I am trying to get teh body lift off asap since even onroad its too tippy.

I have not regeared, but, I have 4.30 gears whihch makes it tollerable. I also do a lot of highway driving so I get pretty decent gas mileage.
